My experience at GenesisCare Surrey was amazing. I chose to have private MRLinac radiotherapy for my prostate cancer in order that my treatment would have the minimum impact on my life and I was not disappointed. I was given an initial appointment within a week of getting approval from my health insurance. As my partner and I were travelling from some distance and staying in Guildford during the 11 days it took for my five treatments, the radiographers were very flexible in arranging the dates to suit us. GenesisCare offered to pay taxi fares for us to travel each time, but as the distance was too far we chose to stay and were amazed when they offered to contribute to our hotel bills, The building was modern and purpose built and the reception area was pleasant, bright and the staff friendly with tea, coffee and snacks on tap. Parking was easy and right outside. The MRLinac suite was similarly well done and the radiographers were friendly, helpful and keen to make things as easy as possible. It was nice to be taken into the control room to meet the team rather than them being shut away behind the glass. All of my treatments started on time and the last two appointments were rearranged so we could leave a day early. The whole experience felt more relaxing than attending a normal medical establishment, in fact more like being at a high-tech research institute. There was a follow-up call from a radiographer after we had been at home for a week to check how I was doing. The MRLinac treatment gave me very little in terms of side effects during the treatment or afterwards and meant we able to explore Guildford and the surrounding area when I wasn't having treatment. The whole experience was much preferable to the standard radiotherapy which would have involved 20 treatments over 4 weeks with months of hormone treatment. I felt confident that the use of MRI scans during treatment ensured the radiotherapy was precisely targeted to give the best results and to limit any damage to other organs. It did require me to lie in the machine for 25-40 mins and to ensure my bowels were empty and my bladder was half full at the time which was a bit tricky. The radiographers were very patient in giving me advice and support to help me achieve this although some more advice at the beginning would have been useful. If you have the option to have treatment at GenesisCare then I can thoroughly recommend it.

Mr Dominic Peter-James Howard

I've had at least three clinical encounters with Mr. Howard relating to carotid web artery issues which he diagnosed following an opthalmic 'stroke on 24 April. On each of these visits (with me feeling very apprehensive) he showed both clarity and professionalism, combined with warmth, gentleness and empathy in explaining my condition and putting before me the benefits of carotid surgery and the risks should I elect not to proceed. But the choice was left to me. He supported this with data which gave me (and my son, a mathematician who was with me) the confidence to go ahead. He additionally mentioned that he had performed hundreds of carotid surgeries generally and specifically some 20 carotid web surgeries, all of which had been successful. That boosted our confidence even more. But what I would always remember was that he went beyond the call of duty on two occasions (one a Sunday) to answer questions I still had while, I believe, he was on holiday. It raised my esteem of not just him but the JR and NHS! The operation on 14 August, though an ordeal for me, went very well. Mr. Howard excelled himself. I recovered fully and was reviewed by him on 21 October, following a duplex scan and given an all clear. I am very grateful to Mr. Howard for his exceptional skills, competence and his inspiring level of care and concern for me during a particularly stressful time. The security and reception staff were absolutely wonderful - welcoming, professional, and efficient. When I went up to the 3rd-floor neurology department, there weren’t very clear directions on where to check in, but I eventually found the desk (ironically, not the easiest task for someone visiting a neurologist!). After checking in, I was seen quite promptly. The neurologist herself came out to collect me - something I didn’t realise until we were already in her office, as she hadn’t introduced herself. I think my presence uneased her and I even commented that I thought she was the porter, as that’s what I had seen with other patients being escorted in. Unfortunately, the appointment itself was disappointing. The neurologist came across as very judgmental and accusatory, suggesting that my symptoms were exaggerated or imagined, despite my clear explanations and the observations of my colleagues, doctors, specialists, and family who have witnessed my neurological decline. When she asked about my profession, she seemed skeptical that I could perform my job without issues, which was uncomfortable and disheartening. I have a follow-up appointment with a neuropsychiatrist, but honestly, I’m not looking forward to it. I can only hope they’ll be more open-minded and empathetic.

I first met Mr Petrine after being diagnosed with lung cancer. The meeting was to discuss the way forward and options available to me. The choices were surgery, chemotherapy and immunotherapy. From the beginning Mr Petrine was very honest with me and highlighted the pros and cons of each option due to pre existing health conditions. Surgery had certain risks involved, but Mr Petrini gave me the confidence to decide that I wanted surgery. Six days after meeting Mr Petrini I had the surgery and I am pleased to say due to his impeccable skills the operation was a great success. After surgery Mr Petrini contacted my wife with updates and she was also able to have direct contact with him if there was any concerns that may have arisen during my recovery. I have no hesitation to highly recommend Mr Petrini.

Following my initial consultation I was offered a date for my surgery which was only two weeks ahead which completely surprised me as I expected a much longer wait I attended my surgery and was treated with courtesy and respect by all of the staff I encountered I was put at ease both before and during the procedure my surgeon My discharge nurse explained clearly what I needed to do with my medication and also how to keep my eye clean I received a phone call from a nurse the day after my surgery checking that everything was okay. I have nothing but positive things to say about the whole experience and would recommend Newmedica to all of my family and friends.

From a thorough explanation of the procedure, to witnessing his beady eye hunt down those hard to find colon polyps and finally reassuring you of the findings, the whole experience was excellent!

Professor Whitby has been my GP for a number of years now and every time I've had to visit shes been amazing. This week I had a serious pain in my hip. After requesting the appointment, Ruth saw me within the hour and and an hour after that i had an Xray, the results, blood tests and the treatment which was steroid injection. Today i am pain free but I have already been contacted by the hospital to arrange a follow up MRI. Ruth did try to sort the MRI out yesterday but unforutantely this was not possible fantastic and caring service once again gareth

Today I came to the practice to visit Dr Andy Brown. I was initially quite nervous however every member of staff was so welcoming and comforting. Upon entering I was greeted by the front of house and offered a hot drink. The waiting room was soothing and I didn’t have to wait very long before the nurse called me in. I expressed my concerns and worries and Dr Andy talked me through all off them and really reassured me. He gave me options and explained them all thoroughly as well as giving me advice on what I need. I highly recommend going to him.

As I have very difficult veins to draw blood from, Prof Rakhit recommended that I should ask for Andrew in the phlebotomy department....which I did. They were very helpful in helping me to come in at a time when he would be there. Andrew was brilliant. He managed to find a vein without any trouble and I hardly felt the needle! My thanks to everyone for making this a much less stressful experience than it usually is!

Saara Majid is my dentist. I cannot overpraise her attentiveness throughout the appointment. The main purpose was a filling, so a local numbing injection was required. There was minimal discomfort. Afterwards, Saara assisted me into my parka, led me to the patient toilet, waited until I emerged, conducted me back to reception to a suitable chair where I could await my taxi, prior to handing over to a receptionist.
