Dr Kara Heelan is a Consultant Dermatologist who provides comprehensive diagnosis and management of a wide range of medical dermatology conditions at leading private hospitals in London.

She specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer as well as in complex medical dermatology. She subspecialises in drug reactions and autoimmune bullous dermatoses. Kara graduated from University College Dublin Medical School with Honours. She completed her dermatology training in Ireland, during which she won national and international prizes for her research. She received the inaugural Sean O’Loughlin memorial gold medal for first place in the national dermatology exam.

She had additive international training at the University of Toronto and completed the highly competitive Advanced Medical Dermatology Fellowship with interests in drug reactions and autoimmune bullous disorders. She subsequently completed a Fellowship in Skin Cancer and Dermatological Surgery at University College London Hospital.

She undertook research in autoimmune bullous dermatoses at the University of Toronto and her MD was awarded from University College Cork. She has published her work in peer-reviewed journals and has frequently presented at national and international meetings.

Kara is currently a member of the National Cancer Research Institute Skin Group and the British Association of Dermatologists guideline group for bullous pemphigoid.

Kara is a mum to two young energetic boys so keeps fit by running after them in her local park!

Dr Tamara Basarab is a consultant dermatologist who graduated from Guy's Hospital in 1990. Basarab undertook her specialist dermatology training in London, where she gained a wide breadth of experience working at various hospitals. Much of her training was at the prestigious national centre of excellence, St John's Institute of Dermatology, where she trained under some of the country's leading dermatologists.

This is the largest clinical dermatology department in the UK. It opened in 1868 and is now one of the world’s leading centres for patients with skin problems. 

Nisith entered medical school with a British Medical Association scholarship and graduated with class and national prizes. He went on to train in the UK, USA and Canada and completed additional fellowship training in complex skin surgery, particularly Mohs micrographic surgery, lasers and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures. He won an award at the American Academy of Dermatology for research in melanoma skin cancer.

Nisith treats a range of skin problems including acne, rosacea, moles, skin cancers, scars, discolouration, eczema, psoriasis and ageing skin. Dr Christos Tziotzios is a Consultant Dermatologist and Senior Lecturer at St. John's Institute of Dermatology, Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, London. He developed an interest in molecular genetic research and hair disorders and secured substantial research grant funding in order to undertake doctoral research into dissecting the molecular pathogenesis of a highly distressing type of scarring hair loss affecting women known as frontal fibrosing alopecia. His PhD research at St. John’s has culminated in high-impact publications, including an original article in Nature Communications, and several distinctions such as the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) Whimster Prize, the BAD Wycombe Prize, the Royal Society of Medicine Dermatology Research Prize and the NIHR/BAD Award.

He remains active in basic and clinical research: he has recently been awarded the British Skin Foundation Young Investigator Award and leads a UK-wide research consortium investigating lichenoid, scarring and alopecic disorders. He is also the National (UK) Chief Investigator for the ALLEGRO studies into a novel and promising class of medicines for alopecia areata.

Dr Tziotzios teaches undergraduate and postgraduate (MSc) students and supervises PhD research at King’s College London, whilst is regularly invited speaker in local, regional, national and international scientific meeting
