Dr Matthew Johnson

Mr Matthew Johnson is the Lead Consultant in gastroenterology at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital, Bedfordshire, and at the Spire Harpenden Hospital in Hertfordshire. Mr Johnson graduated from St George's Medical School, London in 1995. He undertook his specialist training at Guy's, Kings and St Thomas' Hospital and is dual qualified as a General Medical Physician and Gastroenterologist.

Mr Johnson offers services for a range of gastroenterological issues including Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease, functional bowel disorders, food allergies and intolerances (coeliac disease), acid reflux, indigestion (dyspepsia) and other upper gastrointestinal conditions. Mr Johnson is an expert in various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as capsule enteroscopy, oesophageal manometry studies, oesophageal cancer stenting. He has performed more than 3500 Upper Endoscopies and more than 3000 colonoscopies.

Mr Matthew Johnson has established an Oesophageal Laboratory with pH, Impedance and High-Resolution Manometry facilities to assess difficult reflux and oesophageal dysmotility problems and the Small Bowel Capsule Enteroscopy Service at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital. He is actively involved in research and teaching. He is as a regional Advanced Constipation Treatment (ACT) Trainer, teaching other clinicians how to manage IBS and Constipation.
