About Dr Azhar Ansari
Dr Ansari is a highly skilled Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Princess Royal University Hospital, part of King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He sees private patients at the London Bridge Hospital and specialises in managing a broad spectrum of digestive disorders, with a particular focus on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and complex Crohn’s Disease.
Dr Ansari completed his specialist training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital (GSTT), where his pioneering research in pharmacogenetics (personalised medicine) significantly enhanced the safety of immunosuppressive treatments. His work led to the establishment of internationally recognised thiopurine research at GSTT, culminating in a Doctorate from the University of London.
Additionally, Dr Ansari developed and led a nationally recognised IBD service at the Surrey and Sussex Trust, where he created treatment pathways and integrated his research findings into clinical practice. He has received ongoing support through grants from the Kent, Surrey, and Sussex Academic Health Science Network (KSS AHSN) and has served as a visiting professor at the University of Surrey.

Whilst carrying out the proceedure he ensured that I was fully aware of what was going to happen and kept things light hearted. Post op - great follow up, with clear and concise explanations, welcoming questions. There is an element of familiarity when the doctor approaches you, he finds the ability to relate, which is great, a Doctor that actually talks to you rather than at you! Lastly his secretary always kept in touch regularly , super friendly and always there when you need her. GREAT!
