Dr. David Fox is a consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist specialising in the management and treatment of Atrial Fibrillation and all heart rhythm disorders.

Each year he performs an high volume of catheter ablation procedures and he is one of the UK’s most active doctors in the field.

His results are audited annually and demonstrate high success rates with a low complication rates

He was the top medical student at the University of Dundee, having won numerous prizes. He was one of the only 4 students out of 140 that graduated with honours degree and the only student of his year to also have a first class honours degree of Medical Sciences in Pharmacology. He worked in some of the major hospitals around Manchester and trained in Cardiology at the North Western Deanery. During his fellowship at the University of Western Ontario, Canada, he became an expert in cardiac pacing and the latest ablation techniques especially for atrial fibrillation. He trained under the supervision of Professor George J Klein, a leading name in the field. Dr. Fox’s great interest in atrial fibrillation ablation is reflected onto his research work as he has published several very influential papers on the topic.

He was appointed Consultant Cardiologist at the University Hospital of South Manchester in 2008, where he is the lead clinician of the open access atrial fibrillation clinic and the rapid access palpitation clinic.

I was brought up in Wimbledon in South West London and educated in a mix of state and independent schools. At 18, I left home and took a year out working initially as a porter at the Atkinson Morley Hospital in Wimbledon, then 4 months teaching English to children in Kathmandu, Nepal followed by 4 months of travelling around the world.

Having successfully secured a place at St John’s College Cambridge, I then spent my next 6 years in Cambridge where I successfully achieve a 2:1 in medicine and subsequently qualified as a doctor at Addenbrookes Medical School. During my time in Cambridge I rowed for Lady Margaret Boat Club, rowing in the first crew including at 2 Henley Regattas. I stayed on in the Cambridge area to complete my preregistration “house jobs” before moving down to Southampton to complete 2 years of general medical training as a Senior House Officer. I experienced a number of medical specialities before realising my ambition to be a Cardiologist and from there headed back to Cambridge and Papworth Hospital to undertake research into chronic angina and the technique of laser revascularisation of the heart. From here, I headed
North to Manchester where I have lived ever since, completing 6 years of specialist training and subsequently securing my NHS Consultant post at Pennine Acute Hospitals Trust.

As a new Consultant I quickly became Cardiac Catheter Lab Clinical Lead, and took on the task of fully equiping our catheter laboratory with all the the necessary equipment to investigate and treat all patients requiring coronary artery angiography and stenting. This includes the procurement of Pressure wire (FFR) assessment, and coronary imaging techniques of Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). I was the sole operator qualified for the use of rotational atherectomy (coronary rotablation) to treat heavily calcified coronary arteries and remain one of the highest volume operators in Manchester. I also started the local CTO programme, working with local proctors to teach the highly specialised techniques required to re-open completely blocked coronary arteries - tradionally only treated by open heart surgery.

As well as treating coronary artery disease, I also am happy to investigate and treat all other cardiology complaints. Privately and also through my NHS practice I see all types of cardiology conditions, and in particular breathless and heart failure, palpitations including SVTs and atrial fibrillation, hypertension and cholesterol management.

Currently I am Interim Medical Director for Bury Care Organisation but enjoy my clinical work and interactions with patients so continue to participate in all aspects of Cardiology both on the NHS and through private practise. I enjoy practising what I believe to be the highest quality, patient centric clinical care.

Outside of work, I am a fanatical cyclist, enjoy snowboarding, sailing, windsurfing and the great outdoors.

Following his specialist training, Dr Garg worked at the Thoraxcentre, Rotterdam, The Netherlands, researching new coronary stents and the risk stratification of patients treated by PCI. He received his PhD researching the latter from the Erasmus University in 2011 with a cum laude judicium. He has over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has presented at meetings nationally and internationally.  He is currently a peer reviewer for several cardiology journals and is on the international editorial board for one journal. What is a Cardiologist?

A heart attack, also known as myocardial infarction, is one of the most common causes of hospitalisation in the UK and globally. Essentially, it is the process of acute damage to the heart muscle due to obstructed blood flow in the vessels that feed the heart. Heart attacks are medical emergencies, and anyone suspecting their chest pain and other symptoms is a heart attack should call emergency services right away. However, following a heart attack and discharge from the hospital, ongoing aftercare is critical for patients to regain their stamina and prevent future heart attacks. A top cardiologist in London found on Doctify can provide the kind of ongoing care that patients need to have the best post-heart attack outcomes and the lowest risk for a recurrence.

When to see a Cardiologist?

Finding a cardiologist in London is easy with Doctify. The best cardiologists in London to see after a heart attack will provide follow-up and monitoring services for cardiac patients. Additionally, they may start patients on a medication and exercise regimen, do additional testing, or recommend preventative surgical procedures. Frequently, the most common advice from top cardiologists in London involves lifestyle changes – more frequent exercise, a better diet, and eliminating smoking, excessive alcohol use, or other detrimental habits. Additionally, if a cardiologist in London determines that a patient needs any kind of non-emergency surgical procedure (such as bypass surgery) to help mitigate future heart attack risks, they usually can perform these procedures at their affiliated hospital locations. This provides heart attack patients with a continuity of quality care and peace of mind.

What procedures can you find at a Cardiology clinic?
