About Dr Aathavan Loganayagam

Dr Aathavan Loganayagam is a Consultant Gastroenterologist based in South London, providing diagnostic and therapeutic care for a broad range of gastrointestinal conditions. His clinical practice focuses on timely diagnosis and evidence-based management of complex and chronic digestive disorders.

He has specialist expertise in inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, as well as irritable bowel syndrome, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and coeliac disease. He routinely assesses patients presenting with abdominal pain, bloating, dyspepsia, heartburn, altered bowel habit, diarrhoea, constipation and rectal bleeding.

Dr Loganayagam is a JAG-accredited endoscopist and serves as Lead Clinician for Endoscopy at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Woolwich, part of Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. He performs gastroscopy, colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy, including advanced polypectomy, as well as video capsule endoscopy. Sedation options are tailored according to clinical indication and patient preference.

He completed his medical training at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical School and undertook specialist gastroenterology training within the South London programme. His academic work in personalised medicine and inflammatory bowel disease at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals has been supported by research grants and recognised with an NHS Innovation London Award.

Alongside clinical practice, Dr Loganayagam is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education, contributes to MRCP examinations for the Royal College of Physicians, and writes for the European Specialty Examination in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
