Mr Kumaran Thiruppathy is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon based in Reading. He currently sees private patients at the following locations:

• Spire Dunedin Hospital
• London Digestive Centre
• Princess Grace Hospital

Mr Thiruppathy completed his medical degree at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, University of London in 2002 followed by his basic surgical training on the North and East Hertfordshire NHS Trust. Prior to undertaking his surgical registrar training, he began research in coloproctology at University College London and was awarded a MPhil for his work in 2011. During this time, he gained expertise in incontinence, pelvic floor dysfunction and severe obstetric perineal trauma. Mr Thiruppathy completed his specialist registrar training in General Surgery on the North East London General Surgery Registrar training rotation. During his registrar training, he gained vast expertise in complex hernia repair, trauma surgery and laparoscopic colorectal surgery. He became a Fellow in General Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2012.

Following his training, he completed a fellowship at Florida South Hospitals in the United States and a colorectal fellowship at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Adelaide in Australia. He was appointed as a Consultant at the Royal Berkshire NHS Trust in 2015 and has been a consultant since.

Mr Thirupatthy has clinical interests in the following areas:

• Minimally invasive surgery (e.g., bowel resection, bowel operation and colonic surgery)
• Colorectal cancer (colonic growth, polyps)
• Diverticular disease
• Bowel stricture
• Inflammatory bowel disease (including Crohn's, ulcerative colitis, indeterminate colitis, ileo-anal pouches and infective colitis)
• Anal disorders (including haemorrhoids, piles, skin tags, fissure, fistula, rectal pain, rectal bleeding and warts)
• Anal cancer surveillance
• Open and keyhole hernia repair (incisional, inguinal, epigastric and umbilical hernia)
• Laparoscopic gallbladder/gallstone surgery
• Laparoscopic pelvic floor dysfunction (incontinence, constipation and rectal prolapse)
• Endoscopy (gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy)
• Skin lesions, skin lumps
