Mr Amarjit Anand is an Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon based in Surrey, UK. He currently practices at hospitals in Ashtead, Caterham and North Cheam, Surrey. Mr. Anand has a number of advanced degrees and believes very strongly in continuing education to stay on top of the latest treatments and trends in spinal surgery and related fields. His expertise and dedication have resulted in his induction as a Fellow into the Royal College of Surgeons in 2014, a very prestigious honour.
Mr Anand’s education began with a BSc with Honours in Orthopaedic Science from the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore & University College London in 2002. He went on to receive his MBBS from the Royal Free & University College London Medical School in 2005, and his MSc in Evidence-Based Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery from the University of Warwick in 2012. He has also received specialist training in spinal surgery from St. Mary’s Hospital Major Trauma Centre, Charing Cross Hospital, and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore. Most recently, he completed his CCT in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery from the NW Thames Rotation in London in 2015.
Some of the honours Mr Anand received during his training include his position as an Anatomy Demonstrator/Lecturer at Oxford, election to the British Orthopaedic Trainee Association (BOTA), British Association of Spinal Surgeons (BASS) Executive Committee, and the Specialist Training Committee (STC). He has gone on to receive the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) President’s Gold Medal Podium Prize in 2012, and the aforementioned appointment as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2014.
Research, articles, and collaboration with colleagues are also very important to Mr Anand. Throughout his career thus far, he has published over 30 articles and presented at over 50 international conferences. He currently enjoys the position of journal reviewer for the Bone and Joint Journal (BJJ), as well as being an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London, and an examiner on various FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedics) revision courses.
As part of his continuing education, Mr Anand recently completed two post-CCT spinal fellowships at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading and Orthopaedic Spinal Fellowship and a 1-year complex combined Neurosurgical at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. He has also travelled extensively to various centres of excellence in Spain, Germany, and France to continue his training and develop specialist skills. He has received advanced training in all of the cutting-edge and modern spinal surgery techniques, and is a well-known champion of innovation, focusing on new surgical techniques, procedures to preserve motion, custom implants, and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
