I was seen despite living in York. I’d had bad experiences of negligence and neglect from three other trusts (turned out to be cancer - having been called a hypochondriac by the lead urologist at York hospital who refused to agree even to a scan). When the cancer was eventually found, a prosthetic testicle was inserted - the wrong size and badly placed. When I was seen at the Whittington, the action plan made sense (Newcastle were advocating opening up the groin incision - as a molecular biologist this made little sense). The surgery performed, and the improvement was apparent the moment the bandages came off. This is as perfect a replacement as the highly imperfect implants allow! I’m also able to contact the department further down the line given my poor experiences elsewhere should I need further treatment. I’ll be requesting To see Mr Garaffa if possible!

Dr Alwan kindly agreed to speak to me on Tuesday 28th October 2025 rather urgently and I found him to be extremely informative, professional and efficient right away. Gathering all the necessary background information and asking plenty of questions. He moved very effectively to ensure I was able to get the tests I needed to move forward with my planned surgery and made the necessary plan of action and relayed that back to me so efficiently. I felt very confident in his manner and decisions which was a huge relief to me which significantly lessened the stress around my surgery. I also found him to be very caring and empathetic which is a rare and admirable trait.

I had an upper blephoraplasty and lower pinch operation on my eyes. From the initial consultation through to the operation and follow up appointments all of the staff have been amazing. They are friendly, professional and very reassuring, which is essential when you are a nervous patient. Nothing is too much trouble. The clinic is spotless and has a very calm and welcoming atmosphere. My surgeon, Professor Miranda, fully explained the procedure and is friendly and approachable. Can be unnecessarily condescending and cause friction within the group and personally. However, is consistent at calling out unhelpful behaviour from other peer members. Should perhaps consider if the power dressing and power trips are conducive to creating trusting relationships with clients. Provides excellent information on the science behind addiction which is extremely helpful for understanding the nature of the illness.

Prior to my knee replacement surgery I wasn’t able to walk or stand for any length of time. Now my right knee has been fine I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel and am looking forward to my left knee replacement. For anyone suffering I would say go for it - yes it’s painful, yes you have to work at your recovery but you’ll get your life back - without the surgery it’s only likely to get worse.

Above and beyond! I was not the most agile person on crutches, my partner dropped me at the door whilst he went to park. Getting me checked in and wheelchair was no issue at all. The nurse in Out Patients who removed my stitches was ki d caring and professional, checking on me all the time (allowing me to take photos !). Took time to fit my walking boot to make sure it was comfortable.
