Dr Northcote graduated from the University of Glasgow. He was trained in the West of Scotland, following a Research Fellowship, graduated with an MD in 1986. He developed an interest in Coronary Angiography and Angioplasty, and now has more than 25 years experience of this rocedure. During this time he has also pioneered several interventional treatments in Scotland.

His work, on the treatment of Coronary Artery Disease and the Cardiac Effects of Exercise, has been published widely, the latter being recognised internationally. His experiences during his career have included working as the Clinical Director in Medicine in South Glasgow for 9 years and being the Registrar at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow for seven years.
