About Dr Stuart Harris
Dr Stuart Harris is a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at The Wellington Hospital and at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre and Medical Director at Southend Hospital and Deputy Chief Medical Officer at Mid and South Essex NHS Foudation Trust (NHS). He has a specialist interest in arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat), catheter ablations and implantable ICDs and pacemakers.
After qualifying from St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College in 1995 he completed his cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology training in London and Edinburgh. He was initially appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist at St Bartholomew's Hospital in 2005 before he took up a post as a Consultant Cardiologist & Electrophysiologist at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre in 2007 and in 2013 he was made the department's Clinical Director. He is also the arrhythmia lead for the Essex Cardiac and Stroke Network. In 2020 he took up the post of Medical Director of Southend Hospital and the Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
He is actively involved in clinical research on Atrial Fibrillation, the use of implantable devices in the treatment of Heart Failure and the effects of pacing on heart function. He is a Council Member and Treasurer of the British Heart Rhythm Society.

lovely bedside manor very knowledgeable down to earth
Mr Harris is incredible. His surgery, together with his colleagues in theatre has changed my life. He is professional, informative and most importantly inspires confidence. He has a lovely manner and I am so incredibly pleased we found him.
As I have commented previously. Dr Harris is superb in all departments - clinically and personally. He has my total trust.
I have been under the care of Dr Harris on three occasions in the past seven years (although this was my first time at the Cleveland Clinic.) I regard him as the very best of the best. He keeps you informed with precise data regarding the condition and prognosis. I trust him unreservedly. May I add a comment about the anaesthetist, Dr Mark Edsell, who was very reassuring. Neither of them ‘talk down’ to you, as was common in the 1960s.
Dr Harris has been my consultant on a previous product. I always feel safe in the knowledge that what he says is the truth: he has an excellent patient communication skills. He was very reassuring before and during the procedure. His aftercare of his patients is excellent and always responds to questions I have at any time. I would have no hesitation is recommend him to anyone requiring an atrial fibulation ablation procedure.
