I attended for an MRI scan and was initially told by a staff member that I would be given contrast dye. I mentioned that my referral letter clearly stated the scan should be done without contrast. She responded that it was “up to me,” which I found confusing and inappropriate, as I am not a medical professional and shouldn’t be expected to make that decision. She also mentioned that scans are “always done with dye” and that it would be better, which added to my uncertainty, so I decided to follow her advice. While preparing the equipment, she was about to open a cannula but then seemed to remember something and left the room. I also noticed that she handled items without wearing gloves, which made me feel uncomfortable. After setting everything up, she returned with another staff member (the technician who performed the MRI), who then informed me that contrast dye was not necessary. In the end, the scan was carried out without it. Overall, the experience felt disorganised and unprofessional. I felt quite unsafe at the time and unsure whether the staff were confident in what they were doing, which affected my trust in the process.
