The temperature on July 30th was high and made for a very stressful journey to the Cleveland Clinic in Grosvenor Place. There had been a direct admission of a patient from Clinic to Hospital prior to my allocated time which made for a longer wait than expected a whole hour in fact. But when I saw Mr. Rajaratnam I was not hurried at all and I felt I had a very thorough Consultation. He is a very experienced knee specialist and I feel sure that if I go through with more replacement knee surgery then I am confident that in the hands of this Surgeon I will be safe.

I am, today, ten weeks post L total L knee replacement. I am recovering very well and I’m delighted that when I was looking for a surgeon to perform my operation that I discovered Sam. Sam is very experienced and has excellent results. He also uses the latest evidence based techniques and equipment. When I met him in his clinic to review my X-rays and MRI scan he was extremely patient and reassuring; giving detailed explanation as to the options and answering my questions. He informed me that he could perform the operation in May and I was booked in. The team perform all necessary blood tests for the pre-op assessment at that consultation which means you don’t have to travel to London again until the operation. The other reason that I chose Sam was because of his team based approach. This really became evident from the beginning as he introduced me to an excellent physio in my local area (Lucy Rix) who has worked with Sam before. She saw me for pre-op physio and post op (initially at home, then in her clinic). His team in hospital consists of Drs Barry Phillips (anaesthetist) and Ari Johar (medical consultant). They ensure the most fantastic up to date management of pain, nausea, sleep etc so that I had well controlled pain post op. Nursing care is overseen by nurses Christine. Andrea and Magdalena. In hospital. They also provide support post discharge by ‘phone which is so helpful following discharge home for any queries or reassurance. I used this support a couple of times which was invaluable. My experience of the actual operation and post op care in hospital ...

A jolly man who certainly knew his job. I had waited so long that I was somewhat stunned by the time I saw him. I got what I assume was very good advice

Pain on the outside of the knee | Sam Rajaratnam | Knee Specialist London

Pain on the outside of the knee | Sam Rajaratnam | Knee Specialist London

Knee pain is a common problem. In the UK today about one-third of over 50-year-olds suffer from it from time to time. However, only about one-third of these people visit their GP for a consultation about their knee pain, the vast majority preferring to self-medicate or ignore the situation. In the case of minor knee problems, of a temporary nature, this may be a reasonable reaction, but with persistent pain on a long term basis, there is the danger of a serious underlying problem which may get worse if treatment is delayed.

Clicking noise after knee replacement: is it normal? | Sam Rajaratnam | Knee Specialist London

Hearing a clicking or clunking noise after knee replacement surgery can be worrying. Many patients fear that something is loose or that their artificial knee is failing. The good news is that, in most cases, a clicking knee replacement is entirely normal and not a cause for concern. This article explains why knee replacements click, when it is normal, when it may indicate a problem, and what to do if you are concerned — particularly if you have had knee replacement surgery for knee osteoarthritis.
