About Mr Robert Grounds

Mr Robert Grounds is a Consultant ENT Surgeon at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, working across Brighton, Worthing and Haywards Heath. Recognised as one of the UK’s leading ear surgeons, he was awarded the prestigious TWJ Fellowship to train in Canada, gaining expertise in complex ear, hearing and balance surgery using modern, advanced techniques not routinely practised in the UK. He now brings these innovations to his NHS practice.

Mr Grounds treats the full spectrum of adult and paediatric ENT conditions, with a specialist interest in Otology; including hearing loss, ear infections, balance disorders, implantable hearing aids, tinnitus, and Eustachian tube dysfunction. He also has extensive experience managing common ENT problems such as tonsillitis, sinusitis, nosebleeds and hoarseness.

A committed educator and researcher, Mr Grounds has published widely and teaches future ENT specialists. His compassionate, patient-centred approach is deeply influenced by his own experience of undergoing major ear surgery as a child.

Outside medicine, he is a classically trained musician with an interest in music production, as well as a keen cook, traveller, and charity volunteer. As a husband and father of two, he ensures every patient receives the same level of care he would expect for his own family.

I had an appointment with Robert Ground as I have been suffering from dizziness since October 2025. I was told the NHS waiting time was 30 weeks which is why I decided to go private. Robert was very kind and knowledgeable about my condition and was adamant he could treat me. He took time to explain what he was doing and why I am feeling the way I am.

Robert Grounds provided an exceptional initial consultation in respect of my ongoing balance issues following a stoke I suffered a year ago. His questioning to find out key areas of my background and relevance to balance issues was impressive. I was pleased that all initial balance tests were completed within the initial consultation and this left me with answers immediately to explain my condition. I was incredibly impressed to receive Robert Grounds full letter just a few hours later via. the portal with a detailed summary of his findings explained in very clear terms which was remarkable. Truly exceptional service from an amazing professional. Highly recommended.

Mr Grounds was very understanding, informative and helpful. He gave me the options open to me but advised me as to the best course of action for my current symptoms, allowing me the opportunity to change my mind should I feel the need, in the future.

Mr Grounds was very helpful and reassuring. He gave me all the options for treatment but was clear in what he thought was best given the symptoms. However he was very open to me changing my mind were I to feel the symptoms became too much to bear.

Mr Grounds has an excellent, friendly and caring character, ensuring total trust. His explanations are clear and understandable without using too much medical jargon and certainly without talking down to me as a patient. I could not have chosen a better consultant.

I had a consultation with Mr Robert Grounds at Nuffield Hospital in Haywards Heath. I was very impressed by the way in which he approached my difficult middle ear problem. He listened to my explanation of the symptoms and gave a clear, detailed and understandable response. Mr Grounds has excellent communication skills and is professional and relatable. He clearly wanted the best outcome for me and I left the consultation with a detailed and structured treatment plan. He very much gave the impression that he was 'on my side' and I left the meeting feeling a lot better and optimistic about my ear issue. I really valued his expertise and the friendly manner in which he dealt with my problem. There are a lot of ENT doctors to choose from and I'm very glad that I chose Dr Grounds. I can highly recommend!
