Mr Muralidharan R Upendran

Dr Muralidharan Upendran is a Consultant Ophthalmologist based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He has over 21 years of clinical experience and over 18 years of specialist experience in ophthalmology.

Dr Upendran specialises in both medical and surgical ophthalmology and has special interests in cataracts, retinal disease and macular disease.

He currently practices as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Cathedral Eye Clinic, Belfast and Hillsborough Private Clinic, Hillsborough. He also practices as a VR surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai, UAE. In these positions, he typically sees patients with medical retinal conditions and vitreo-retinal conditions, mainly:

• Diabetic retinopathy
• Retinal vein occlusion
• Age-related macular degeneration
• Uveitis

Dr Upendran received his medical degree in 2000 from Kasturba Medical College, India. He later completed his Master of Surgery degree in Ophthalmology at Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, India in 2003. He became a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 2006 and became a Fellow in 2012. He also completed a Fellowship in Vitreo-retinal Surgery at Birmingham and Midland Eye Center in 2014.
