Mr Andrew MacDonald graduated from The University of Glasgow in 1998 and began his early training in the West of Scotland. He furthered his career by moving to Cambridge as a registrar, and then spent a year in Australia. During his time in Australia, he lectured at The University of Adelaide and worked as a Joint Replacement Fellow at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Since 2011, he has been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Lanarkshire, where he also practices privately at Ross Hall Hospital in Glasgow.
Mr MacDonald has a specialist interest in hip and knee replacement surgery, including complex primary surgeries and revision cases. With over 23 years of experience in Orthopaedics, he has spent more than 13 years in the NHS as a consultant in these areas.
He is passionate about teaching and training the next generation of surgeons. Mr MacDonald was awarded “Trainer of the Year” by his trainees and placed third at the UK national level. He is also a member of the teaching faculty for the AO Foundation, a global organisation dedicated to innovation in the surgical treatment of fractures.

Mr MacDonald put my 79 year old dad at ease from the off set. My dad was reluctant to have surgery on his hip however Mr MacDonald explained the process fully and reassured him. 1day post surgery he is home relatively pain free and looking forward to getting out and about again back doing the things he enjoys. The process from start to finish has been first class from the first call with John Ross , consultation, pre op etc. All staff were very welcoming from Mr MacDonald to all the nursing staff and a special mention to Matthew the anaesthetist who kept him laughing.

I would recommend taking the private route for speed professionalism and comfort. At all times I was well informed made to feel secure in my choice and confident that I could trust Mr Macdonald to execute the procedure accurately. I haven't made a mistake.

Overall the experience was very satisfactory. Three weeks after surgery, I had follow-up appointment and the surgeon completely reassured me on the healing process which stated was very good.
