Mr Andrew MacDonald graduated from The University of Glasgow in 1998 and began his early training in the West of Scotland. He furthered his career by moving to Cambridge as a registrar, and then spent a year in Australia. During his time in Australia, he lectured at The University of Adelaide and worked as a Joint Replacement Fellow at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Since 2011, he has been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Lanarkshire, where he also practices privately at Ross Hall Hospital in Glasgow.
Mr MacDonald has a specialist interest in hip and knee replacement surgery, including complex primary surgeries and revision cases. With over 23 years of experience in Orthopaedics, he has spent more than 13 years in the NHS as a consultant in these areas.
He is passionate about teaching and training the next generation of surgeons. Mr MacDonald was awarded “Trainer of the Year” by his trainees and placed third at the UK national level. He is also a member of the teaching faculty for the AO Foundation, a global organisation dedicated to innovation in the surgical treatment of fractures.

Mr MacDonald is interested in teaching and training, having previously won “Trainer of the Year”, voted for by the trainees themselves and came third at UK national level. He is also part of the teaching faculty for the AO foundation, a worldwide organisation dedicated to innovation in the surgical treatment of fractures.
In his spare time he enjoys hillwalking, running, cycling, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Overall the experience was very satisfactory. Three weeks after surgery, I had follow-up appointment and the surgeon completely reassured me on the healing process which stated was very good.

This experience was much more straight forward than I had even imagined. Mr Andrew MacDonald is such a mild mannered gentleman that you could only ever feel safe in his hands. From the moment I was taken surgery which felt like it was over in a flash to be brought into recovery, he was the reassuring human by my side. Many thanks!
