Mr Gautam Mehra

Mr Gautam Mehra is a Consultant Gynaecologist specialising in all areas of Gynaecology and Gynaecological Oncology. He sees patients privately at The London Bridge Hospital, HCA at The Shard, Lister Hospial (chelsea) and Guy's &  St Thomas' Hospital. 

Mr Gautam Mehra is the Clinical Lead for Gynaecological Oncology at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital.

He is recognised for providing expert, compassionate and highly personalised care to women with both complex benign gynaecological conditions and gynaecological cancers. Mr Mehra has over 30 years of experience in gynaecology and has been a Consultant at Guy's & St Thomas' since 2014. He undertook specialist training in leading tertiary centres across London before completing advanced subspecialty training in Gynaecological Oncology at Guy's Cancer Centre and the Kent Oncology Centre. He specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of: 

• Gynaecological cancers (ovarian/uterine/cervical/vulval and rarer cancers)

In 2012 Mr Mehra was awarded an International Fellowship by the Indian College of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. He was also appointed as the President of the London Chapter of the Federation of Obstetric & Gynaecological Societies of
India.  

Mr Mehra is one of the UK's leading specialists in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery, including laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He established the Robotic Gynaecology Programme at Guy's & St Thomas' in 2020 and performs complex procedures using advanced surgical techniques designed to minimise pain, reduce recovery time and optimise outcomes whenever appropriate. 

As Clinical Lead for Gynaecological Oncology, he oversees rapid diagnostic pathways, cancer diagnosis, treatment and follow-up services. He is a core member of the specialist multidisciplinary cancer team and leads the gynaecology genetics service, advising women with inherited genetic conditions on strategies to reduce their future cancer risk. 

Alongside his clinical work, Mr Mehra is an internationally recognised researcher and educator. He was awarded a PhD in Robotics at King's College London, becoming the first gynaecological oncologist to undertake a medical engineering doctorate focused on improving robotic surgery using haptic technology. His research interests include robotic and laparoscopic surgery, sentinel lymph node mapping, fertility-preserving cancer treatment and inherited gynaecological cancers. He has been Principal Investigator for several national research trials, including the 100,000 Genomes Project in
gynaecology and currently the PROTECTOR trial investigating surgical strategies to reduce cancer risk in women with inherited genetic mutations. He has published extensively in international medical journals and co-authored a textbook on laparoscopic surgery. 

Mr Mehra is frequently referred complex gynaecological cases by colleagues from across the UK and internationally. He is a senior BSCCP-accredited colposcopist and is actively involved in training the next generation of gynaecological surgeons. He teaches nationally and internationally and serves as a preceptor for advanced training in
Gynaecological Oncology and Robotic Surgery through the Royal College of
Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
