A Life-Changing Experience – Thank You My wife is 62 years old and has battled alcoholism for 27 years. She had been to rehab three times before, but this time was different. After losing her mother – her last remaining close relative – she turned to alcohol once again, retreating from the world in her grief. As a family, we were at breaking point. In a desperate effort to keep a promise to her late mother, I kept her at home until the funeral so she could attend sober. It was one of the hardest challenges I’ve ever faced, but I managed it. Sadly, after the funeral, the drinking returned and we lost her to the bottle once more. When a small inheritance came through, I decided to try again. From the very first conversation, they understood exactly what we were going through. They acted quickly, knowing how critical timing is — when an addict asks for help, you must act immediately before the addiction takes over again. Addiction is not just the addict’s disease — it affects the whole family. They supported all of us, not just my wife. It’s now been four months, and I see a change in her I have never seen before. She is beginning to embrace sobriety in a genuine, lasting way. She speaks openly when she feels low or has a difficult day, instead of turning to the bottle. That openness has been life-changing for the whole family. I will always be grateful for their understanding, dedication, and wisdom. They didn’t just help my wife — they helped give our family hope again.

The staff at Princess Grace Hospital were outstanding from start to finish. From pre-op to the pre-surgery waiting area, everything was explained clearly, including how patients are triaged, which really put me at ease. The level of support was exceptional; physio, dietitian input, and timely pain management were all seamlessly provided. I was also impressed by the technology, such as the pump to prevent blood clots, which gave me extra reassurance since I have predisposition to Deep Vein thrombosis. I would like to give special thanks to my anesthesiologist, Dr. Chan, who was excellent, and to every single nurse who cared for me; there were too many to name, but they were all amazing, including the night assistant who was always available the moment you ranged. Even the food exceeded expectations. It felt like 5-star dining, with healthy, abundant options that made recovery more comfortable. After many surgeries elsewhere, I can honestly say I’ve never had such a positive hospital experience. Princess Grace sets a remarkable standard of care.

Daniel is a first class obstetrician and surgeon, and it was a privilege to meet him on my journey to parenthood. He always listened attentively to my questions and provided me with clear, straight-to-the point answers, which were very helpful to understand the procedure I was going to have. The planned c-section seemed a worrying experience at first, but it turned out to be not as scary because of the Daniel’s professional approach and calm manner. During the course of the operation and after it, in hospital, I was under his full-time medical care and everything was under his control. I felt in safe hands and this is what I needed. Daniel was always very efficient in replying to my emails. No matter how busy he is, he always puts his patients first, whether it is day or night. Cataract op. performed by Mr Ting and team On arrival nurses prepared me by 3/4 doses of eye drops over 30 minutes with pleasant reassuring chat. When taken in for the op Mr Ting and staff were very calm and chatted to me asking questions , checking and rechecking which eye was to be done. On the table I was given instructions to open my eye and stare at a very bright light which after a minute or two I could do. Op proceeded painlessly with assuring commentary from Mr Ting as to progress. 15-20 minutes later it was all done. Being a bit rickety (at 81 yrs young) staff helped me to sit up , get my bearings and assist me to the Post Op lady to be briefed on my next 4 weeks of care which I dutifully followed. For anyone due for a cataract op NHS at Midland Eye should be their first choice. Many thanks for Mr Ting and his very professional excellent team

I went to my consultation with some trepedation as I didnt know what to expect but I was quickly put at ease once the consultation began. I was impressed with the detailed checks and scans that were carried out and everything was clearly explained at each stage. I was quiete surprised to be told that I wasnt ready for treatment at this stage and that any improvement that they could make for my reading vision, could potentially, make my distance vision slighly worse than it is at the moment. i was really impressed at the honestly and professionalism of the Consultant who gave me his honest opinion and did not try and sell me a procedure that I didnt need. For me this is very comendable in this day and age, Perhaps in a number of years time my situation will have changed and I will not hesitate to return to Cathedral for further advive/ analysys.

My wife is in hospital for an operation today and due to prior anxieties over NHS treatment, we asked the hospital for me to stay with my wife in the room throughout including overnight. They have been most accommodating and have bent over backwards to make it work and kept me fully informed throughout how the operation is going. The consultant was more than happy for me to ask questions both during consultations and the surgery today and has given great confidence that all will go as planned. Ward staff have been more than helpful to both of us and treated us as individuals and my wife has been provided a high level of care throughout.

Attended for a PSA blood test. Arrived a few minutes early but was taken for the test straight away and made to feel very comfortable by a very nice nurse who asked me if I had a problem with blood tests - which I do. She told me to lie on a bench and was very reassuring and I was sorted out in no time at all. A quick plaster on the injection site and I was out the door again - feeling quite brave by then of course - a few minutes before my actual appointment time. You don't get that service on the NHS nowadays sadly. I still don't like blood tests but, if you do need one, you can't do much better than in my opinion.

Car parking can be a problem. There are some local side streets with the odd space or Sainsbury is about a 20 minute walk, think you get about 3 hours. I had my operation on a Saturday and the place seemed very quiet and peaceful, one member of staff said it's more chaotic in the week. Parking was easy at 7.30am on Saturday but I had been dropped off anyway. There are buses that stop nearby from Macclesfield bus station but I haven't tried them. It's lovely to have your own room, particularly if you're a very sensitive person. The staff on the whole treat you with respect.
