I approached Mr Sedra as I was looking for a specialist in paediatric orthopaedics, as I knew that my son had scoliosis but I was unsure about treatment options. Mr Sedra arranged for X-rays and an MRI and then talked us through the results. At this stage the curvature was moderate and he recommended waiting until my son had finished his GCSEs before making any decisions. Six months later we repeated the X-rays and found that the scoliosis had progressed rapidly. Mr Sedra advised surgery which although not a complete surprise was a bit of a shock on the day. I particularly appreciated the way Mr Sedra talked with my son, involving him in every aspect of the decision. He gave us all time to think and discuss the situation without rushing us. At the same time he started setting things up so that if we decided to go ahead he could give us a date. Once we had made the decision everything happened swiftly but our son was told that he could always change his mind. I think Mr Sedra’s professionalism combined with his warm and friendly manner meant that we, and our son, trusted him to act in our son’s best interests. The operation was successful and it was reassuring to my son that the days following the surgery were as Mr Sedra had forecast, ie painful but always manageable. We have a follow up scheduled with Mr Sedra but I know that if I have questions or concerns in the meantime. I can always get in touch.

I think my answer to this was in the previous box. But to repeat, my whole experience was excellent throughout. From the outset he diagnosed my problem and having consulted his team made a plan for my lumbar decompression surgery. I wasn’t nervous at all and clearly everything went very well due to his great skill as a surgeon. He was incredibly kind and personable throughout and responsive to everything I asked. I would recommend him without reservation
