    Spire Elland Hospital

Overall, Spire Elland was great and I would happily return should I require any further procedures in the future. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and everything is very clean. I think the main thing letting the hospital down is patient communication. All appointments and comms are recorded and delivered via an app. If you don't want to or aren't able to download the app (like me), you do end up being left a little in the dark about things. For example, I had been given a surgery date fairly soon after my initial consultation, which was great, however I hadn't been informed that there would be multiple pre-operative assessment appointments to attend - all of which were on-site at Spire Elland, which is around an hour's drive for us. On one occasion, I had to make last-minute arrangements to move clients around as I'd been unaware of an upcoming appointment - I'd received no email, no text, no phone call, no letter. I just so happened to log in to my online portal and find the appointment date there. I moved clients around so I could attend, and just a couple of days before my appointment received a text message to say the date had changed, with no explanation provided. I called to try and find out why this might be, but was met with a dismissive reply of, "We just had to move it". All of the documents outlining the process for my surgery and the prep I should do beforehand were provided online, and the online portal isn't the simplest to navigate, so accessing them wasn't as easy as it could have been. When I was admitted for my day surgery, the staff were very welcoming and friendly, although I did find that I received a blunt reply whenever I asked a question about anything. This was my first ever surgery and my first time being put under general anaesthetic, so naturally I was quite nervous. Some of the members of staff were very helpful and supportive, but others seemed to have little patience, which wasn't ideal and only served to make me more anxious. When I came to after the surgery, I had been expecting to have a bit of a handover with someone so I could at least find out how it had gone and what they had/hadn't found. Unfortunately, Mr Gan was occupied in another surgery, and so I was discharged before having the chance to speak to him. I asked the nurses for some clarification - any brief notes or insights they might be able to give to put my mind at ease a bit until I could speak with Mr Gan - but this was met with quite curt replies. I was told no one could read Mr Gan's handwriting so no one could tell me any information, which at the time was quite frustrating as I'd been dealing with the pain for so long and had viewed the laparoscopy as the light at the end of the tunnel. It was disheartening to leave the hospital without any real clarification of the issue. Now having had my final follow-up with Mr Gan, I can say with confidence that all of my questions have been answered, and I feel validated and supported as a patient. However, I can't help but feel that had the communication from the hospital team been a little better throughout the process, it wouldn't have been so frustrating to wake up after the surgery and find that no one could tell me how it had gone.

Dr Muhammed A Ottayil has been absolutely exceptional in his care and support of my daughter, Lyla Rose. From our very first appointment, it was clear that he is an extremely knowledgeable and highly experienced consultant paediatrician, but what truly sets him apart is the way he combines that expertise with genuine compassion and patience. Dr Ottayil is incredibly thorough. He takes the time to carefully review every detail, explains findings clearly, and ensures that nothing is overlooked. He never rushes appointments and always makes space for questions, no matter how small, taking care to explain things in a way that is easy to understand and reassuring as a parent. His depth of knowledge is evident, and his clinical judgement inspires complete confidence. Throughout our time working with him, he has been consistently supportive and approachable. He listens attentively, takes concerns seriously, and treats both child and parent with respect and kindness. As a parent, it makes an enormous difference to feel heard and understood, and Dr Ottayil excels at this. His calm and reassuring manner has been invaluable during what can otherwise be a very stressful experience. He has been truly amazing to deal with at every stage — professional, compassionate, and dedicated. I feel extremely grateful that my daughter has been under his care, and I would not hesitate to recommend Dr Muhammed A Ottayil to any parent seeking outstanding paediatric support. He is an exceptional doctor and a credit to his profession.

Appalling aftercare!! In as an overflow NHS patient. Had major surgery. Nurse refused the doctors requests in the morning. When discharged later that day the nurse still refused what the doctor asked for. The doctor had to be firm in saying what the nurse had to do as it was on the surgeons notes! The nurse reluctantly did it in the end but only half a job. The nurse left ouzing burn scars after removing dressing and didn't tell me until i put my clothes on and the material was catching on them. My husband got him back and he said "Yes i saw that!". Did nothing or aplogise. No empathy at all. I had 2 nurses come to my home that evening to sort out the burns and dressing on my surgical areas . Nightime was very little aftercare. Catheter was overflowing in the night. No one seemed to know what was going on in regards to your medical notes. Food was appalling dried up and burnt. No snack trolley inbetween meals. Awful experience. Couldn't wait to get out of there. Was I treated differently because I was in there last request as an overflow NHS patient. I was meant to be going to Birchington ward for my recovery. A complaint will be going in! The doctor said twice to have medication prescribed to the nurse and he would not do it so I came home with no painkillers and was told to go to a chemist after major surgery. Lack of care. No bedside manners.

All seemed to be going well and at the close of my appointment the consultant asked me to have a blood test done outwith the Cathedral Also he advised that I should make an appointment for the operating procedure downstairs at reception. Circa end of April When I went to the desk I was advised that the member of staff was off that pm and I would receive a call tomorrow Next day I contacted my surgery about the blood sample and test. Late on my surgery called back to advise they were not willing to arrange the test as they were not treating me I received no call from Cathedrai that day The next day I waited to on and called Cathedral Spoke to Clare a few times and essence of conversation was that all was on hold as consultant on holiday and not available till 17th February Also no progress can be made with blood sample and rest even although I asked them to read my consultation notes !!! So I could comment more however this is the essence of a mot disappointing situation after my consultation

I had a wonderful experience at Dr. SW Clinic during my pshot treatment . From the moment I walked in, the staff were welcoming, professional, and attentive. The clinic itself is clean, modern, and very well organized, which immediately made me feel comfortable and confident in their care. A special thank you to my patient advisor, Hiba, who was absolutely amazing throughout the entire process. She was kind, knowledgeable, and incredibly supportive. Hiba took the time to answer all my questions, explain everything clearly, and make sure I felt reassured every step of the way. Her professionalism and warm approach truly made a difference in my experience. I highly recommend Dr. SW Clinic to anyone looking for excellent care and outstanding patient support. Thank you again to Hiba and the whole team!

I cannot praise the team at Chaucer Hospital highly enough following my recent right knee surgery. From the very start, the administrative staff made the admission process seamless and stress-free. My surgeon and anaesthetist were world-class, providing not only technical excellence but also the reassurance I needed heading into the procedure. Once on the ward, the care was exemplary; the ward doctors and nurses were attentive, professional, and genuinely kind. I must also give a special mention to the kitchen staff, as the foods were excellent—the quality and variety of the meals far exceeded my expectations for hospital dining. It was a truly holistic care experience where every department worked in perfect harmony, and I felt valued and well-cared for every step of the way.

I have multiple joints pain for a month and have swelling in my fingers for almost 2 weeks. I have been on painkillers for a month as well. Washing hands or changing clothes is a challenge for me. My Gp kept refusing to refer me the rheumatologist without the blood test result or could not come up with any diagnosis. My blood test came as normal. I had an appointment with Dr Singh yesterday and upon first inspection diagnosed it as psoriatic arthritis and said the blood test come as normal for this. He empathised on my situation and prescribed medication assuring that it will help me with the swelling and the pain. He explained to me about a long term treatment plan. I am very grateful to him and his assurance have made me confident that I will get better under his guidance.

I ruptured my Achilles tendon playing squash last September. My consultant surgeon strongly recommended Physio Remedies, who have an excellent reputation for helping athletes recover and return to sport in the best possible condition. I’m being treated by Naomi Murray, who closely follows the latest international research on Achilles injuries, which is very reassuring. The rehab plan has always been clear, progress has been excellent, and follow-up is very responsive whenever I have questions. Her patients’ recovery and long-term outcomes are clearly a genuine priority for her. The facilities at the Lansdowne Club are also outstanding and make a real difference to the quality of the rehabilitation. I would definitely recommend Physio Remedies.

I was experiencing tiredness and high fatigue. Dr Sen reviewed my blood results and felt the cause might be insulin resistance especially given my medical history. She was very thorough and ordered further test to ensure my hormones and vitamins were in line. She spent time to explain the medical facts around blood sugar and insulin and her advice on changing my diet has improved my well-being dramatically. I would definitely recommend her as through diet instead of medication I am tackling my health issues and hopefully lowering my risk of getting diabetes.

Though I prepared in advance for what expect in relation to parking and expected to pay on the way out, an usher directed me to another car park where there were options of paying on an app or using cash. I had time on my side luckily. Directions were almost right but I would have been better prepared if I had known the entrance sits at the back of the main A&E entrance. The staff were friendly and the environment was clean and calm. The doctor was incredible, attentive, patient, precise, clear and efficient. The experience was good.

Super empathetic and clearly knows his stuff. He took the time to explain everything in real detail, breaking it down in a way I could actually understand. He linked things together so it all made sense rather than feeling overwhelming. He also recommended additional medication to take alongside what the NHS had already provided, which has genuinely made a big difference and really helped. I felt listened to, supported, and confident in the plan moving forward.

At all times I was confident that he was aware of the next steps and any contingencies which had to be placed for developing scenarios. He is a very likeable person and I genuinely looked forward to seeing him and I would recommend him to anyone.

I visited the clinic to discuss removal of a lesion on my eyelid. Having spoken to the consultant Mt Murray I decided to have it removed. I returned two weeks later to have the surgery. All the staff were very supportive and took time to explain the whole procedure to me. In particular Jenny took great care of me and made sure I felt as relaxed as I could be. Everything went to plan and I would like to thank everybody that was involved.
