A Life-Changing Experience – Thank You My wife is 62 years old and has battled alcoholism for 27 years. She had been to rehab three times before, but this time was different. After losing her mother – her last remaining close relative – she turned to alcohol once again, retreating from the world in her grief. As a family, we were at breaking point. In a desperate effort to keep a promise to her late mother, I kept her at home until the funeral so she could attend sober. It was one of the hardest challenges I’ve ever faced, but I managed it. Sadly, after the funeral, the drinking returned and we lost her to the bottle once more. When a small inheritance came through, I decided to try again. From the very first conversation, they understood exactly what we were going through. They acted quickly, knowing how critical timing is — when an addict asks for help, you must act immediately before the addiction takes over again. Addiction is not just the addict’s disease — it affects the whole family. They supported all of us, not just my wife. It’s now been four months, and I see a change in her I have never seen before. She is beginning to embrace sobriety in a genuine, lasting way. She speaks openly when she feels low or has a difficult day, instead of turning to the bottle. That openness has been life-changing for the whole family. I will always be grateful for their understanding, dedication, and wisdom. They didn’t just help my wife — they helped give our family hope again.

I wanted to share some feedback on my recent appointment. I felt the consultant was quite dismissive and used language that may not have been appropriate — for example, when feeling the lump I was told immediately “this is not cancer.” While I have personal experience in this area and have been through it before, for someone new to this situation such a conclusion could feel very daunting and unsettling. The appointment also felt rushed, particularly after the ultrasound (as the mammogram machine was broken). I left feeling as though my questions were seen as unimportant, and that I was being hurried out because “nothing was wrong.” While I accept the results, I had hoped for a more considered discussion — especially as I’ve had similar lumps removed in the past and wanted to understand the difference this time. Instead, I was simply told to manage the pain, given a leaflet, and advised to take primrose oil. This did not feel like the most supportive approach. To then receive a letter a couple of hours later — before the mammogram had even taken place — dismissing me from the service, felt like a rushed and premature conclusion. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as the experience could be improved by allowing more time for questions, more sensitivity in communication, and reassurance for patients at what can be an anxious time.

The Weymouth Street Hospital where I attended for my surgery is hands-down the best hospital I have ever been a patient in. It was clean and organised. The team at the hospital from admission, the chef, the anaesthetist, the surgical teams, the nurse on the ward were all absolutely brilliant. Their patient care was the best I have ever experienced , they were also very efficient - I felt like I was staying in a 5-star hotel!

Afterward, I continued working with her postpartum, and she was instrumental in helping me recover from my C-section and improve the healing of my scar. Miriam's support has been invaluable, and I’m so grateful for her care.

Now being in my eighties I have for the last three years had an annual check-up at the Basuto Medical Centre (Dr Pozzi). The check-ups have been extremely comprehensive and informative. Indeed so well have they been conducted that they has given me peace of mind with any possible problems being both explained and, if necessary, dealt with. I cannot speak more highly of the way I have been treated and can think of no anyway the Busuto Medical Centre could have given me a better service.

They created a calm and magical atmosphere, all while delivering the highest standard of care and this allowed me to relax into my new role as a mother. As a surgeon myself, I would highly recommend the service to friends and family and have no doubt that I will be using the Lindo maternity services in the future.
