About

I completed my higher surgical training in orthopaedics on the Birmingham Orthopaedic Training Program. I subsequently undertook two fellowships focusing on sarcoma and complex limb reconstruction in the world-renowned Oxford sarcoma service and the Birmingham bone tumour service. I was appointed as consultant orthopaedic and oncology surgeon in 2017 to the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital. The unit in which I work is one of the biggest in the world, serving a population of around 20 million people. I specialize in the management of patients with bone and soft tissue tumours. I regularly perform resections and complex reconstructions for patients with a musculoskeletal oncological diagnosis. My clinical practice also incorporates primary and complex arthroplasty, including revision joint replacement. I coordinate the supra-regional sarcoma multi-disciplinary tumour board as well as frequently chair the National Ewings MDT. As the ROH receives between 3500-4,000 new oncology referrals a year I facilitated the introduction of a daily diagnostic MDT to triage all new referrals expediently, which has received excellent reviews from referrers.

I am passionate about education and feel it is my duty to help train future generations. I am an honorary senior clinical lecturer for the University of Birmingham and I have close links with local medical schools, specialist training deanery and the wider FRCS training community. I regularly lecture to medical students during their attachment at my hospital and I examine their OSCEs. I am an educational supervisor for general practice and orthopaedic trainees and I am a registrar appraiser. I am an invited faculty member for several FRCS training courses around the country, including the Oxford Miller Orthopaedic Course, the Wrightington basic orthopaedic science course and the Sheffield FRCS course.

I have a keen interest in clinical research. I have published work on a wide range of orthopaedic subjects, including oncologic and surgical outcomes in sarcoma and periprosthetic joint infection, and have presented at many national and international meetings, receiving numerous awards. I believe research enables the medical community to provide the best possible care for their patients through the utilization of an evidence-based approach. Inherently, sarcoma is a rare cancer and, as such, I am committed to furthering collaborative research between institutes in order to pool resources and expertise for the benefit of all of our patients, as is evident through some of my published work.

For me, being a surgeon isn't a job, it's a calling. I take huge pride in caring for my patients and helping them through what is often an incredibly difficult time.

Absolutely fantastic doctor, I can not recommend him enough. From his bedside manner to his surgery skills. He completely rebuilt my leg to enable me to walk again. He's genuine and actually happy to see his patients thrive post cancer. This was proven when I arrived with my newborn and he wanted to take a photo holding my baby to show other staff of how well I’m doing. I honestly wouldn’t trust anyone else with my care the way I do Scott Evans.

Despite the terrible circumstances under which I have had to meet Mr Evans, his manner and demeanour have put me at ease. He called my partner following my surgery and has checked in on me since via phone calls or popping in when I have had other appointments. As well as being treated by him, we have also felt cared for and I am extremely grateful to be under his care.
