About Mr Akash Sharma
Dr Akash Sharma is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in all aspects of Knee Surgery. He is based in Birmingham and currently sees patients at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.
Dr Sharma obtained his medical degree from St George's Hospital Medical School in London in 2007 and became a Trauma & Orthopaedic Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2016. Dr Sharma completed his basic surgical training in centres in London and Oxford and subsequently completed his higher training in the West Midlands. He also completed advanced knee fellowships at the internationally renowned Nottingham University Hospitals and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford.
Dr Sharma has expertise in all areas of knee surgery, and regularly performs knee replacement surgeries; including partial, total, revision and robot assisted knee replacement surgery.
He is passionate about providing the best care and treatment outcome for his patients, thus uses the latest evidence-based orthopaedic techniques and technology where possible. Additionally, Dr Sharma is the Chair of the Modern Interventions Group at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Sharma has been involved in several research projects and has been awarded 3 academic prizes for his work. He has co-authored 5 book chapters in his field of expertise and is also a Lecturer.
