Dr Akash Sharma is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in all aspects of Knee Surgery. He is based in Birmingham and currently sees patients at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.
Dr Sharma obtained his medical degree from St George's Hospital Medical School in London in 2007 and became a Trauma & Orthopaedic Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2016. Dr Sharma completed his basic surgical training in centres in London and Oxford and subsequently completed his higher training in the West Midlands. He also completed advanced knee fellowships at the internationally renowned Nottingham University Hospitals and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford.
Dr Sharma has expertise in all areas of knee surgery, and regularly performs knee replacement surgeries; including partial, total, revision and robot assisted knee replacement surgery.
He is passionate about providing the best care and treatment outcome for his patients, thus uses the latest evidence-based orthopaedic techniques and technology where possible. Additionally, Dr Sharma is the Chair of the Modern Interventions Group at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Sharma has been involved in several research projects and has been awarded 3 academic prizes for his work. He has co-authored 5 book chapters in his field of expertise and is also a Lecturer.

I had a Mako robotic knee replacement under Mr Sharma’s Care. Everything he said he would do he did. Kept me so informed. Everything he said I would feel in my recovery happened. I feel so good at six weeks. I’m not taking any painkillers.

I had a left robotic knee replacement. The knee operation went so well, I recovered so much quicker than my first knee done by someone else. I was so much quicker and doing what I wanted to do. Within 2 weeks I stopped my medication. I walk now almost 2 hours at a time. I’m so pleased with my result. Thank you Mr Sharma I can’t thank you enough!

All expectations were exceeded, experience was outstanding and completely satisfactory. I had a mako robotic knee replacement.

I had a Right robotic knee replacement, I am six weeks from my operation date. This is the way forward it doesn’t get any better than this. Pain free, and looking forward to my left one being done. Thank you so much Mr. Sharma.
