Mr James Carmichael is a highly knowledgeable and experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, specialising in disorders of the foot and ankle. He has been working as a consultant within the NHS since 2010, currently based at North-West Anglia NHS Foundation trust. His clinical practice covers all surgical procedures related to the foot, ankle and knee, as well as trauma orthopaedics.

Mr Carmichael completed his surgical training on the south coast of Australia and then undertook fellowships at the North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Injury Clinic under Dr David Wood and Dr Merv Cross. Following this he returned to the UK and undertook a further fellowship under Mr James Calder at the Clinic for Foot and Ankle Surgery and Westminster Hospital before he returned to the Peterborough area where he took up his consultant position.

In addition, Mr Carmichael is involved in research and development work, teaching new surgeons and constantly striving to improve surgical practices - for which he has received two Clinical Excellence Awards. He is also a member of numerous professional organisations, including the General Medical Council, British Medical Association, Royal College of Surgeons of England, British Orthopaedic Association, British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, East Anglian Foot and Ankle Society and the International Bone Research Association.
