Dr Leyla Swafe

Miss Leyla Swafe is a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon providing comprehensive care for patients with breast conditions across both NHS and private practice in London. She sees patients privately at HCA Healthcare UK, with outpatient services based at The Shard and 31 Old Broad Street, and holds a substantive NHS consultant post at North Middlesex University Hospital, Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.

Miss Swafe graduated from the University of Aberdeen before completing higher surgical specialty training in London. During her specialist training, she gained extensive experience in leading oncoplastic breast units, including The Royal Marsden Hospital, one of the world’s foremost centres for cancer care and innovation.

She offers expert management across the full spectrum of benign and malignant breast disease, with particular expertise in oncoplastic breast surgery—combining oncological precision with reconstructive techniques to optimise both cancer outcomes and cosmetic results. Her practice encompasses all aspects of breast surgery, from assessment and diagnosis through to advanced surgical treatment and follow-up care.

Alongside her clinical work, Miss Swafe is actively involved in research, with work presented at national and international scientific meetings and published in peer-reviewed journals. She is deeply committed to surgical education and training and has co-authored Safe Hands: A Handbook of Surgical Techniques, a widely used educational resource for trainees. She serves as an Educational and Clinical Supervisor for surgical trainees and is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of surgeons.

Miss Swafe holds a Master’s degree in Surgical Education (Distinction) from Imperial College London and is the Founder of the Academy of Surgical Education, an organisation delivering innovative, high-quality educational courses for doctors at all stages of training and professional development.

She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and a member of the British Medical Association.
