Arrived early Saturday morning for a small knee operation. Taken to my room by a lovely friendly porter. Was invited immediately by catering to make a choice of food from an excellent menu. Then seen by nurses, anaesthetist, surgeon, who all explained exactly what was going to happen, in a relaxing manner, giving me complete confidence in their care. I was soon taken to theatre by the lovely chatty nurse & porter, that had been with me from my arrival. They obviously had a happy working relationship, including me in their chat to make me feel more relaxed. The anaesthetist was lovely, chatting about Christmas whilst calmly letting me drift into sleep. I woke up feeling well & refreshed, taken back to my room for a cuppa & delicious sandwich. The nurses continued their careful monitoring of me & I was soon seen by the physiotherapist who explained about the importance of my post-exercise sheet & use of crutches. Then a visit by Mr Slack, my amazing surgeon that had previously done my hip replacement, who explained what he’d done, that all had gone well, discharging me to go home & it’s only early afternoon. My painkillers arrive, my home instruction booklet is completed, I can go home. What fantastic care from all the staff & medical team, many thanks to you all.

The day of the surgery when he came to speak to me and tell me what was going to happen he again was direct and confident. He spoke very clearly and I felt very informed of what was going to happen which gave me an assertive and positive assurance in his ability to perform the surgery which went amazingly well. I had no worry or anxiety about the surgery leading up to it and am extremely grateful to Doctor Khanna and his team for performing the surgery and fixing my hernia. Although I felt well cared for during my visit, I was unsure why I was asked to come in at 7am only to not have my procedure done until around 11.30. I was originally scheduled to come at 9.10 but got a call earlier in the week asking to come at 7am -reception didn’t seem to be aware of the time change when I arrived. They still managed to accommodate me, but there was just too much time spent waiting around between my initial checks and the procedure.

Spire was brilliant. Clean, Friendly staff, fast process (MRI in just a few days for example). I had a nerve block injection at Murrayfield and I had my own room which was spotless, all the staff were great from the nurse in the ward to the surgeon via the person who brought me lunch (which I could pick off a menu). Would highly recommend (though don’t injure yourself in the first place if you can help it)

Asked all questions (clearly from script/list of qs), even when already discussed and known as irrelevant, or already covered the answer. Exercises provided in technical terms only, hard for lay person to remember and understand. Zero follow up even though it was promised.
