About Mr Christopher Hemmerdinger
Mr. Chris Hemmerdinger is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Macclesfield District General Hospital, where he is the lead for the glaucoma service. He was appointed as a consultant in 2011 at Warrington and Halton Foundation Trust where he spent 5 years and was clinical lead in Ophthalmology, ENT and Oral Surgery. In 2016 Chris relocated to East Cheshire trust.
He graduated in Optometry from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology before beginning his medical training at Manchester University Medical School. He went on to train in Neurosurgery and Emergency medicine before beginning training in Ophthalmology at the Royal Bolton Hospital and St Paul's Eye Unit, Liverpool.
Mr. Hemmerdinger has a specialist interest in glaucoma, cataracts and corneal diseases. He has vast experience in glaucoma surgery, particularly non-penetrating glaucoma surgery, such as Viscocanalostomy and deep Sclerectomy.

I visit Mr Hemmerdinger once a year to have my corneal dystrophy checked. He is such a lovely consultant who is very knowledgeable and explains everything very clearly,often with models to help me understand what he’s explaining.I feel confident in him and wouldn’t go anywhere else.
My visit was a little delayed but all went well otherwise and I would recommend to Amy of my family or friends
I was seen on time at Spire. Mr H explained everything clearly. I didn't feel rushed and felt I was treated as an Individual and not a number. Service was excellent.
Excellent result of my regained eyesight, Dr Hemmerdinger made me very relaxed during the procedure.
As I wanted to have bilateral surgery it was imperative that I selected a competent and highly regarded surgeon with an impeccable outcome record. Mr Hemmerdinger fitted that criteria and as such I was willing to travel 125 miles to the Spire Hospital Cheshire for the procedure. This took less than 1 hour for both eyes with no discomfort, pain, or any negative effects. Mr Hemmerdinger and his team were always fully supportive such that I was completely relaxed with no concerns whatsoever. The sight correction was immediate, and the full recovery period of 4 weeks consisted only of daily eye drops. Taking Mr Hemmerdinger’s lens recommendation of a Rayner RayOne Galaxy Toric Spiral IOL means I no longer need spectacles at all for any distance. Given how special your sight is I would say that Mr Hemmerdinger cares even more than the patient for their eyes and as such you could not place your trust in anybody else. The experience was professionally and caringly controlled to the last detail. You could not ask for anymore. Personally, I described the outcome as MAGIC.
