About Mr Christopher Hemmerdinger
Mr. Chris Hemmerdinger is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Macclesfield District General Hospital, where he is the lead for the glaucoma service. He was appointed as a consultant in 2011 at Warrington and Halton Foundation Trust where he spent 5 years and was clinical lead in Ophthalmology, ENT and Oral Surgery. In 2016 Chris relocated to East Cheshire trust.
He graduated in Optometry from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology before beginning his medical training at Manchester University Medical School. He went on to train in Neurosurgery and Emergency medicine before beginning training in Ophthalmology at the Royal Bolton Hospital and St Paul's Eye Unit, Liverpool.
Mr. Hemmerdinger has a specialist interest in glaucoma, cataracts and corneal diseases. He has vast experience in glaucoma surgery, particularly non-penetrating glaucoma surgery, such as Viscocanalostomy and deep Sclerectomy.

I was worried about the procedure but needn’t have been! I was kept informed and all my questions were answered by Mr Hemmerdinger and his team in advance. The Spire Hospital made me feel comfortable prior to surgery and provided a detailed explanation of what to expect during and afterwards. The theatre team were very calm and reassuring throughout. Mr Hemmerdinger took over in preparation for surgery and throughout the procedure. He told me what was going to happen and what he was doing at every stage. I couldn’t see much but didn’t feel at all uncomfortable. The experience was weird but certainly wasn’t worth worrying about! My recovery so far has been without any discomfort. I am aware something feels different but have no issues in the day or at night. I have stuck to the eye drop regime. My sight is exactly as I was told it would be.
I went for an eye consultation and additonal tests. Everything was explained clearly, great service provided from everyone I met and had any interactions with. I'd highly recommend Chris Hemmerdinger for these reasons.
From the first consultation to post op Chris was attentive , explained everything clearly and made me feel completely at ease. My lens replacement surgery was a success and the results are incredible. Highly recommend Chris .
Mr Hemmerdinger provided an empathetic and professional service. Nothing was rushed and a full explanation was given of everything my wife needed to know. She came away much more confident with her options.
I am very happy with the advice given and care provided to me by Chris Hemerdinger and the team at Spire regency to date. The cataract replacement process went smoothly on both occasions and there have been no issues of concern since.

I was a bit nervous on the first operation but Mr Hemmerdinger was very good and put me at my easy.
I visited Mr Hemmerdinger at the Spire. My appointment was on time and everyone was polite and took their time. I was reassured about the issue I had gone with. Mr Hemmerdinger answered all of my questions and suggested next steps to be taken.
I would highly recommend, very thorough explained everything and a very nice man too
