Patient FAQ
– Robotic & Single-Port Surgery
What is robotic surgery?
Robotic surgery is a form of minimally invasive surgery where the surgeon uses
advanced robotic technology to perform precise movements through small
incisions. The surgeon remains in full control at all times, with enhanced
vision and accuracy, which can improve safety and recovery.
What is single-port (single-incision) surgery?
Single-port surgery is an advanced technique where the operation is performed
through one small incision, usually hidden within the belly button. This
avoids multiple cuts on the abdomen.
What are the benefits of single-port robotic
surgery?
Am I suitable for single-port surgery?
Suitability depends on several factors, including your condition, previous
surgeries, and overall health. Mr Ramar will assess you carefully and recommend
the safest and most appropriate approach.
What procedures can be done using single-port
robotic surgery?
Mr Ramar commonly performs:
Is robotic surgery safe?
Yes, robotic surgery is widely used and considered safe when performed by
experienced surgeons. Mr Ramar has performed around 500 robotic procedures
with an excellent safety record.
How long is the recovery after robotic
surgery?
Recovery is usually quicker than traditional open surgery. Many patients return
to normal daily activities within a shorter period, although this varies
depending on the procedure and individual factors.
Will I have a visible scar?
With single-port surgery, the incision is hidden within the belly button,
meaning scarring is minimal and often barely noticeable.
Do I still need general anaesthesia?
Yes, these procedures are performed under general anaesthesia to ensure you are
comfortable and pain-free.
How do I book a consultation?
You can arrange a consultation with Mr Ramar at his private practice. During
your consultation, your condition and treatment options will be discussed in
detail.

Had two hernia ops carried out by Mr Ramar by robotic surgery.he was extremley professional before the operation and after with his after care.could not recommend him highly enough, made sure i was comfortable before and after my surgery.10/10.
I cannot thank Dr. Sasindran Ramar enough for the exceptional care provided to my wife during her gallstone treatment at Cromwell Hospital. What initially seemed like a straightforward surgery became more complicated when my wife developed thyroiditis. Due to the associated risks, the surgery had to be postponed because anaesthesia could not be safely administered at that time. Throughout this challenging period, Dr. Sasindran Ramar was always available, responsive, and reassuring. He remained in close contact, promptly addressing our concerns and providing guidance whenever my wife experienced severe gallstone pain. Once her condition was suitable for surgery, Dr. Sasindran Ramar performed a single-port robotic gallbladder removal surgery near belly button with outstanding skill and precision. The results have been remarkable. My wife recovered well, and there is virtually no visible scar—not even a one-inch mark—which is truly impressive and you can in photos. Beyond his technical expertise, what stood out most was his genuine care, accessibility, and commitment to his patients. We always felt supported and confident that my wife was in the best possible hands. I would highly recommend Dr. Sasindran Ramar to anyone seeking advanced robotic surgery and compassionate, patient-cantered care.
I had a single-port robotic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) as a day case. Was out within the day, the pain was gone within the week and the scar is pretty much invisible after two week barring some residual scab still present.
Couldn’t be more thankful to Mr Ramar and his team for completing a single port gallbladder removal procedure. From start to finish Mr Ramar was professional, thoughtful and insightful. My procedure was completed on time with a discrete incision and very little pain. My recovery has been quick and easy with no complications.
I am myself a Senior Clinician in the NHS with multiple clinical roles as well as Clinical Commissioner within our NHS and Lead Owner of Private medical practice. Mr Ramar is an excellent clinician, thorough and very knowledgeable. His surgical expertise is well known in the Medical Field, and it is his precision to detail for each patient, which is why he is highly recommended within the Private Practice sector. Dr J.
I had surgery for a spigelian hernia 3 weeks ago and am recovering very well after the procedure. I would thoroughly recommend Mr Ramar who has always been totally professional, attentive and kind. This operation has been life changing for me as I am no longer in pain.
"I cannot thank Dr. Sasindran Ramar enough for the exceptional care I received. I was quite nervous about needing my gallbladder removed, but Dr. Ramar’s calm and reassuring demeanor completely put me at ease. He thoroughly explained the benefits of the robotic surgery, and the results spoke for themselves. The surgery went flawlessly, the incisions are tiny, and I was back on my feet much faster than I expected. He is a brilliant surgeon who truly cares about his patients. 5 stars!"
Dr Ramar was amazing ! He was helpful and caring. He performed my hernia operation - I had a speedy recovery. Thank you
I couldn’t have asked for a better surgeon for my gastric sleeve. Mr Ramar at Blackheath Hospital (under King’s NHS) was friendly, reassuring and very knowledgeable from the start. He came to see me the morning of my surgery to check how I was, and again afterwards to make sure everything was OK. I also received a follow-up phone call and text, which meant a lot. I felt genuinely cared for throughout the whole experience and would highly recommend him.
Deeply cares about his patients, good communicator, skillful laparoscopic and robotic surgeon in various bariatric procedures, gall bladder operations and hernia repair.
