Mr Nadim Aslam, Worcestershire Knee and Hip Clinic Mr Nadim Aslam ,Consultant Orthopaedic SMART ( specialist mako assisted robotic technology) Surgeon is one of the leading pioneers in robotic assisted joint replacement technology in the country. Currently ranked in the top five of the United Kingdom for Robotic Surgeon users. He has 18 years of consultant experience and carries out over 500 joints a year, having done more than 5000 joint replacements. He has pioneered and innovated advancements in robotic surgical technology to benefit patients with osteoarthritis requiring joint replacement. He works out of the Circle BMI Droitwich Spa Hospital, Spire South Bank Hospital, in Worcester, Spire Parkway Hospital in Solihull, Harbourne HCA Hospital in Birmingham and the Worcestershire Royal Hospital NHS Trust in Worcester. He completed his specialist orthopaedic training at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, which is a world-renowned centre of excellence. Robotic-assisted surgery, among the most advanced surgical technology, applied to hip and knee arthroplasty has experienced rapid growth in utilization, surgical applications, and robotic platforms such as the Mako robotic surgery system (Stryker) were introduced in Worcestershire. AI has a crucial role in robotic knee and hip replacement surgeries by enhancing preoperative planning, surgical accuracy, decision support, predictive analytics, and postoperative monitoring. Robot-assisted surgery can use AI algorithms to analyse CT scans to create virtual 3D models of the patients joint. Mr Aslam uses this 3D model to visualize the joint anatomy, plan the optimal implant size, positioning, and alignment for the patient’s specific anatomy. The robotic system features adaptive control algorithms that allow it to make real-time adjustments based on changes in the patient’s anatomy or surgical conditions. This has helped to maintain precision and accuracy throughout the procedure. Robotic hip and knee arthroplasty remains attractive as our studies show that it consistently improves implant position and alignment over conventional techniques. By using AI technologies in robotic assisted knee and hip replacement, Mr Aslam can achieve greater precision, efficiency, and patient satisfaction in hip and knee replacements. Mr. Aslam undertook his fellowship training in knee sports surgery at the Orthopaedic and Arthritic Institute, Sunnybrook with Dr John Cameron an internationally renowned knee surgeon and sports injury specialist, and St Michaels Hospital, Toronto with leading knee and hip arthroplasty surgeons. Mr Aslam has extensive experience in all aspects of knee and hip surgery including arthroplasty, arthroscopy and ligament reconstruction work in younger patients. He deals with meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament knee injuries for leading sports teams. His main interest includes mako robotic assisted and minimally invasive primary arthroplasty of the knee and hip which he believes will be the future gold standard for joint replacements. He has pioneered the cutting edge technology and carried out the first mako robotic assisted joint replacements in Worcestershire.
