Mr Northeast examined my condition at the initial appointment and confirmed that I needed umbilical hernia repair surgery. He explained what the procedure would entail and how my day to day life would be impacted for 4 to 6 weeks after the operation. He also answered all the questions I had about the procedure. He sought the requisite funding for my operation and kept myself and my GP updated on progress. I was fortunate to obtain a cancellation and so my operation date was sooner than I had anticipated. The operation went smoothly and I had very little pain or discomfort following the operation. I subsequently returned to see Mr Northeast approximately 4 weeks after the operation where he examined me and advised me the operation had been a complete success and advised me what I should avoid doing until the full 6 weeks post operation period was complete. Overall I was very pleased with the entire experience and grateful for his expertise.

I had an initial consultation for varicose vein treatment (following a flyer in the post) and following further investigations/diagnosis I went ahead and had an operation. The whole experience from beginning to end was first class. Everything was fully explained to me and all my questions were answered before deciding on the most appropriate treatment. The operation (under local anaesthetic) went well with a nurse talking to me all the time and explaining everything which was happening as as well as distracting me! My recovery went as planned - and as explained - and a follow up visit to see the consultant was very reassuring. All in all I was very pleased with everything and would not hesitate in recommending Shepton Mallet Hospital.

I had my Pre-assessment on 14/91/26 at 09.30. I arrived early because of the inadequate parking at the hospital but was pleasantly surprised to be able to park straight away so, I arrived at 09.00 for my appt. I registered with reception then the nurse, Sharon, called me. Sharon talked me through my Pre-assessment and explained in detail what would happen when I'm admitted for my op. She gave me an ECG, took MRSA swabs and I had my bloods taken. Sharon explained several forms to me and provided Octensian wash and nasal gel for me to use prior to admission and after. The whole experience was positive. Sharon was very professional with an easy, friendly manner and kindly answered my questions that she had not already covered.

After the first right eye cataract removal Mazen Tahhan gave me his telephone number and said to call him if I had a problem. I am a very keen insect photographer and found with the distance lens I could not see the camera screen clearly. I became worried about the impact on my ability to focus close up on insects. About 8 p.m. I sent him a text briefly outlining my concerns . He called me back immediately and listened carefully. I was even considering other options than the NHS lens and he kindly sent details of these. However he advised me to I stay with a close-up NHS lens to get as much light into the eye as possible. I followed his advice and am very pleased and very satisfied with the result. Sabina George

Mr Padmanabh Phaltankar

6wks post ACL reconstruction and I cant recommend Mr.Phaltankar or the team at The Highfield enough. Rupturing my ACL was not part of my plans (!) but I have had, from Day 1, full faith in Mr. Phaltankar. It's important to note that I was previously under the care of another Surgeon whos approach I didnt feel was for me. I then had to look for a Plan B and was referred to Mr.P via Pennine MSK. If you're under his and the Highfield's care, you're in good hands. Again, I'm 6 weeks post ACL & Meniscus surgery and doing really - firmly back on my feet, at the gym, short dog walks and next to no scarring!!

The waiting area had few chairs and not enough for the people waiting. The people around there that gave me paperwork and told me where to wait, were polite and helpful. The appointment with the consultant was really distressing, I couldn't ask questions and didn't discussed with me the plan, just set up steps without getting me involved on her treatment plan. This experience was very negative from what I expected when you go to a professional asking for advice and reviewing if your body is working well. It was lovely to meet Dr Ravi Ray on 15.02.2025 for my follow up appointment at the fracture clinic, Dr Ravi did brilliant surgery on my right humorous spiral fracture thanks to him my arm is on the mend with everything working normal i just need to strengthen my muscle more in that area as still weak but gradually getting there. The work he did on my arm was total perfection right down to the very neat and tidy scar, I can't thank him enough such a lovely man.
