About Mr Simon Harris

Mr Simon Harris is Consultant General Surgeon who has worked within the NHS in London for over 15 years, based at Hillingdon Hospital and Mount Vernon Hospital, part of The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

He trained at Charing Cross Medical School and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree and was awarded a Master of Surgery (MS) from St George’s Hospital, University of London, for research into the aetiology of colorectal cancer.

Mr Harris has a specialist interest in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, including upper gastrointestinal surgery, colorectal surgery and colorectal cancer surgery. His advanced training includes extensive experience at the Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit (MATTU) at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, and the Institute of Tele-Surgery in Strasbourg, France.

His clinical practice includes the management of complex surgical cases, including patients with previous abdominal surgery, recurrent hernias, sports hernia and Gilmore’s groin. He has performed a high volume of laparoscopic procedures, including gallbladder surgery and groin hernia repair for inguinal, femoral, umbilical and incisional hernias. He also performs laparoscopic cholecystectomy for gallstones, gallbladder polyps, biliary colic and gallstone-related pancreatitis.

Mr Harris undertakes assessment and investigation of abdominal symptoms using blood tests and imaging modalities such as X-ray, ultrasound, MRI, MRCP and PET scanning. He also performs diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and colonoscopy, including polyp removal and investigation for bowel cancer. Where appropriate, he offers alternative diagnostic options such as CT virtual colonoscopy.

He has extensive experience in the investigation and management of diverticular disease, including the treatment and prevention of recurrent diverticulitis. He routinely assesses patients with symptoms suggestive of abdominal or bowel cancer and performs laparoscopic bowel cancer surgery in both NHS and private settings.

Mr Harris is a core member of the Colorectal Cancer Multidisciplinary Team at Hillingdon Hospital.
