Much of his extensive medical career has been spent training in London. Owing to his medical excellence, he was awarded the Hallett Prize Gold Medal for General Surgery and then the Keith Yates Gold Medal for Urology. After completing his urology training in London, he undertook fellowship training at the Institut Mutualiste Montsouris in Paris, the world-leading institution at the time, where his specialism was minimally invasive prostate surgery.
Mr Cahill has an excellent reputation in general urological diagnostics and treatment as well as his own specialist practice in prostate cancer. His specialist areas of interest include prostate cancer, robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy, general urinary diagnostics and management including benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), haematuria, and general conditions of the scrotum and penis.

When I was informed that I had cancer a million things run through my mind and we wanted to get the best possible team around us and several of our friends and friends of friends with experience of prostrate cancer all urged us to reach out to Declan. We found Declan to be very human, down to earth, warm, and funny whilst being extremely informative about the course of action he proposed which filled us full of confidence. In the meetings leading up to the surgery Declan and his team prepared us very well … so we knew what to expect both pre and post surgery and every part of the process was extremely professional.

Thank you. Good to hear. Feels very rewarding to have this feedback.
I am 58 and was diagnosed at the end of 2025 with prostate cancer by the NHS. It was diagnosed following a biopsy in light of persistent PSA readings between 4 and 5. I didn't have any symptoms so am very grateful to my GP for starting this process. I was offered radio or surgery so spent ages researching my options. Two friends recommended Declan so I arranged an appointment as I knew I wanted surgery to remove the cancer. I was incredibly reassured on meeting him that he was the right guy and, knowing my concern, he arranged for my immediate surgery even though this was just before Christmas. My ONLY priority was to get rid of the cancer so I fully accepted the risks of side effects. My prostate was removed via single arm robotic surgery and the biopsy revealed clear margins so the operation appears successful. I am on 3 month follow up PSA checks and am still ultra vigilant. Declan performed nerve sparing surgery and I regained 95% of my continence on removal of the catheter and within a few weeks was fully continent. My erectile function gradually recovered over the following months so am hugely grateful and fully aware that this was only down to the incredible skill of Declan's surgery. I would thoroughly recommend Declan to anyone considering surgery. I have nothing but praise. Declan is supported by an amazing team. Netty spent time and care with my rehab plan and was always available and easy to talk to without any embarrassment. Finally - Declan's Secretaries were brilliant - they responded immediately to my many e-mails and questions which is a huge part o...

Wow. Thank you. Delighted you’re doing so well.
I had a zoom consultation with Declan and Netty. We went through everything, plenty of time provided to answer questions I wished to ask. Answers were clear and precise.

Thank you.
An exemplar and the best of the very best One year ago I was a 70 year old retired vascular surgeon who had worked as a consultant for 31 years with a new diagnosis of probable prostate cancer. As any other worried patient, I didn’t know who to see and was relieved to quickly find Declan on the web; his reputation, website and reviews were all outstanding. At my first appointment he immediately put me at ease and I knew within two minutes that he was the consultant to manage my situation. Here was a hugely experienced consummate professional with an exemplary warm patient manner and communication skills who gave clear, concise, honest advice and inspired confidence. Prostate cancer was confirmed on biopsies and imaging showed it expanding towards the base of the bladder, possibly through the capsule. I was then able to be treated by nerve-sparing robotically assisted radical prostatectomy using a single port and was fortunate that my cancer was confined to the prostate on analysis. I made a rapid postoperative recovery with no complications. One year later I am living a normal and very active life with no sign of recurrence, playing lots of sport with a normal urinary stream and control, no incontinence whatsoever and no significant ED issues. A remarkable early outcome that I am thankful for every day. Throughout this journey Declan and his exceptional team have all been absolutely brilliant. Dr Netty Kinsella, Nurse Consultant, works seamlessly with him. She provides comprehensive and meticulous advice and support with immense kindness and humanity. She is a role m...

Wow. Thank you. What we aspire to but great to know it makes a difference. It’s all about you. Very helpful. Delighted to seeing you do so well.
I was lucky to hear about Declan and his reputation for outstanding clinical results when I discovered that I had prostate cancer and faced a somewhat uncertain outlook. In my situation the choice of treatment between surgery and radiotherapy, each with its relative merits and unwanted effects, seemed quite daunting. Declan was very clear in his advice and 8 months post surgery I'm certainly happy that I chose him and his team for my care. Everything that I hoped might happen in terms of speed of recovery has exceeded my expectations and most importantly all indicators of disease eradication have been favourable so far. All aspects of his care and that of his nurse consultant colleague, Netty Kinsella, has been excellent.

Thank you very much. Delighted for you too
After waiting for 3 moths with the NHS for a biopsy and a further month for the result I was informed I had prostate cancer having been blissfully unaware anything was wrong! After the diagnosis I was told I only had two options, radiotherapy or surgery and to expect a 60/80% chance I would have erectile disfunction and a 50% chance I would be incontinent, that was the beginning of my cancer mindfuck! I was fortunate to have private medical care and chose that route rather than continuing through the NHS. The stress and anguish of making a decision on which direction would be best, surgery or radiotherapy is immeasurable. The moment I met Declan I knew surgery was for me, his compassionate, calming, reassuring, approachable demeanor put my wife and myself completely at ease. He took time to explain my diagnosis, listen to all of our questions/concerns and answered them openly and honestly. Then talked through what the surgery entailed taking time to explain each step of the journey in his reassuring, calming manner.

Thank you. Delighted for you.
Mr Cahill has been clear, consistent and compelling with his communications all along. He listens well too, ensuring that he understands his patient's questions and worries. He allayed my concerns and gave me the confidence that I am in very capable and very caring hands.

Thank you.
I received all of the information from Netty & Declan & knew what to expect. This helped me to prepare & have any last minute questions answered by them. I was more than happy with the consultations beforehand. They were both very professional & understanding.

Thank you.
Initial Consultation In early September 2025 I had my initial consultation with Declan, and it turned out to be a genuinely uplifting experience. From the moment my partner and I walked into the room, he put us both at ease. I immediately felt that I was in safe, capable hands. He explained the radical prostatectomy procedure in a way that was clear, calm, and easy to understand. What really struck me was how positive he was about my specific diagnosis — he made it clear that we could look forward to a very good outcome, which was exactly what I needed to hear. I’ll be honest: I went into the appointment feeling quite anxious. A previous consultation with an NHS consultant had left me believing that surgery would almost certainly lead to life‑changing consequences. That fear had been sitting heavily with me. Declan completely changed that. He didn’t dismiss my concerns; instead, he addressed them directly and reassured me with balanced, confident information. By the end of the meeting, both my partner and I felt relieved, informed, and genuinely hopeful.

Thank you.
The planning, procedure and follow up were handled in exemplary fashion by the all the teams with whom I came into contact. Everyone took time to ensure I was clear and comfortable with understanding the options presented as to treatment and likewise what was going to happen during the various assessments and tests. The Marsden is an exceptional hospital with highly skilled people who are able to leverage what is to me advanced technology.

Delighted to hear this. Thank you.
