Mr Declan Cahill is a Consultant Urological Surgeon. In 1993, he qualified at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School (now Imperial College) with distinction.
Much of his extensive medical career has been spent training in London. Owing to his medical excellence, he was awarded the Hallett Prize Gold Medal for General Surgery and then the Keith Yates Gold Medal for Urology. After completing his urology training in London, he undertook fellowship training at the Institut Mutualiste Montsouris in Paris, the world-leading institution at the time, where his specialism was minimally invasive prostate surgery.
Mr Cahill has an excellent reputation in general urological diagnostics and treatment as well as his own specialist practice in prostate cancer. His specialist areas of interest include prostate cancer, robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy, general urinary diagnostics and management including benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), haematuria, and general conditions of the scrotum and penis.
For robotic radical prostatectomy his results are equivalent to the best published results in the world for cancer margins, continence and potency. He operates on a very high volume of patients with prostate cancer each year, performing between three and five robotic radical prostatectomies per week.

I received all of the information from Netty & Declan & knew what to expect. This helped me to prepare & have any last minute questions answered by them. I was more than happy with the consultations beforehand. They were both very professional & understanding.
Initial Consultation In early September 2025 I had my initial consultation with Declan, and it turned out to be a genuinely uplifting experience. From the moment my partner and I walked into the room, he put us both at ease. I immediately felt that I was in safe, capable hands. He explained the radical prostatectomy procedure in a way that was clear, calm, and easy to understand. What really struck me was how positive he was about my specific diagnosis — he made it clear that we could look forward to a very good outcome, which was exactly what I needed to hear. I’ll be honest: I went into the appointment feeling quite anxious. A previous consultation with an NHS consultant had left me believing that surgery would almost certainly lead to life‑changing consequences. That fear had been sitting heavily with me. Declan completely changed that. He didn’t dismiss my concerns; instead, he addressed them directly and reassured me with balanced, confident information. By the end of the meeting, both my partner and I felt relieved, informed, and genuinely hopeful.
The planning, procedure and follow up were handled in exemplary fashion by the all the teams with whom I came into contact. Everyone took time to ensure I was clear and comfortable with understanding the options presented as to treatment and likewise what was going to happen during the various assessments and tests. The Marsden is an exceptional hospital with highly skilled people who are able to leverage what is to me advanced technology.

Delighted to hear this. Thank you.
My most recent visit to Declan was a second psa check, following a Prostatectomy last November. I was greeted warmly as ever by Declan and his consultant secretary, Dr. Netty Kinsella. I couldn't wish for a more professional, skilled and personable team than that of Declan and Netty. At every visit I am met with good cheer, candour, honesty and above all an assurance that - whilst in the consulting room - I am the very centre of Declan and Netty's attention. Although there is no sense of haste whatsoever in consultation, my case is dealt with clearly and concisely. I emerge well informed, encouraged and in the knowledge that I have had the best care possible. 10/10 every time!
My wife and I found Declan to be very friendly, down to earth, and approachable for a world class surgeon. Whilst in his care, I felt like he cared for me as a person and not just another patient, he even phoned the night before to see how I was, and checked in pre and post opperation. His team members such as nurse consultant Dr Netty Kinsella , responded promptly to any email correspondence , which was very reassuring during a worrying period. Declan's experience, expertise and skill with the robot and operating on prostate cancer, meant I was left with only a small eight cm scar and his nerve sparing left me with very few symptoms which improved within a few months after the operation. The operation went smoothly, one minute I was chatting to the anaesthesiologist , the next minute I woke up, the opperation complete. I opted not to have the epidural pain relief and found the small amount of pain was easily delt with using paracetamol, and I only spent a few nights in hospital. The catheter bagtook a day or two to get used and it was removed after ten days, I then had some bleeding passing urine, but again it cleared up after a few days. I was back to my office job working from home after 3 weeks, fully recovered after 3 months following the teams very detailed recovery schedule. For my part , the moment I was told my scan showed potential leasion . I overhauled my diet. I followed the Mediterranean diet , reduced or eliminated dairy except for a small amount of greek yogurt each day, reduced alcohol to once a week , and cut out red meat and saturated fat. I increas...
Read moreA highly professional, properly focussed specialist, together with very high quality aftercare, post op. I appreciated the honest, straightforward discussion at the outset, and felt in very good hands throughout the process. In the nine months post my operation, my ongoing dialogue with the surgeon, and his team, has been very useful, comforting and informative. I have always felt in very good hands throughout and would recommend without hesitation. Thank you Team Cahill

Thank you.
Declan and his team are clearly leaders in their field and provide clear advice on all treatment options and likely outcomes. The attention to aftercare is undertaken every bit as professionally as the pre-treatment consultations and procedures and assistance is made available through whichever channels patients prefer.

Perfect. Thank you.
I wholeheartedly give whatever is the highest rating. The level of professionalism, care, kindness and clarity were all nothing short of superb.

Thank you.
I found Declan to be very straightforward and confident in his advice, whilst being happy to discuss my concerns. He has a very gentle manner and I found it easy to talk about sensitive matters with him without embarrassment.

🙏
Despite the concerns around the treatment the experience was probably as good as it could be. Pre-op the communication was good, and I felt comfortable. Declan has a nice manner and instills confidence. I felt I was in really good hands which helped me relax before the procedure. Post Op was also very good - carefully taking me through the Op and how to manage from there and expectations moving forward.

Thank you
