Dr Scott Murray is an experienced consultant cardiologist based in Liverpool. He treats his patients as he would a member of his family, and he prides himself on his down-to-earth approach and his ability to explain complex concepts in a simple and accessible way.
Scott gained his BSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine in 1999 from Glasgow University, graduating with First Class Honours. His initial research work focused on BNP and ACE genotype in athletic LVH and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and was presented at the American Heart Association.
In 2001, he completed his medical degree and relocated to Liverpool to train in general medicine and cardiology, specialising in interventional cardiology, in particular intravascular imaging (IVUS) in stable and unstable coronary artery disease. During this time, he also undertook research at The Thoraxcentre in Rotterdam and in Virginia, USA, focusing on the use of intravascular ultrasound and cardiac CT to diagnose "vulnerable plaques" in patients. He gained an MD for his work, which was also widely published.
After spending 10 years focused on the vulnerable coronary plaque, Scott now specialises in preventative cardiology. He prefers to deal solely with the "vulnerable patient" and reduce individual risks. He has recently given a keynote lecture at the Royal College of General Practitioners in London,
Scott works in general cardiology at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital in and is highly proficient in all areas of the field. He has several leadership roles locally in the sustainability and transformation plans (Demand and Prevention Lead), and he is the current president of the British Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation (BACPR).
He is married (to another doctor!) with three young boys, and he lives in West Kirby, Wirral. He enjoys playing of but doesn't get to play as much as he would like these days!
