Last year I was struggling significantly with my breathing and had a couple of referrals with the NHS ENT team regarding a Nasal Valve Collapse. Unfortunately, the NHS were not able to address my nasal valve issue and would only correct my deviated septum, so I looked elsewhere for private options and spoke with several surgeons about a functional septorhinoplasty. I found Prof Chatrath online after researching surgeons who specialise in nasal issues, particularly nasal valve collapse. It seems there are very few surgeons in the UK who perform this type of surgery. On first consultation, Prof Chatrath was very understanding of my issue and we began a course of steroids straight away. After a trial period, he recommended a nasal endoscopy to properly assess the problem. This revealed a deviated septum and severely enlarged turbinates, both of which he suspected were playing a significant role in my breathing issues and nasal valve strain. We agreed to proceed with a septoplasty, intranasal Z-plasty (I believe to widen and stiffen the internal valve area), RF turbinate reduction, and alar batten and rim grafts on to correct the issue using a closed, non-invasive approach. Paul also recommended RF turbinate reduction being mindful of the risks of Empty Nose Syndrome, which was reassuring. Other surgeons I consulted recommended a full open rhinoplasty with lots of cartilage grafting, which I understood was is a lot to go through. Paul instead was keener on a more conservative closed septorhinoplasty and was clear that this would not rule out future options if it wasn’t successful, so not to overtreat a problem that wasn’t there. He was very honest about expectations, and I felt I was in very safe hands. The procedure itself was slick and fast. I had no bruising and felt back to normal around three weeks post-op. Post op care was great. I did have an accident 12 days after surgery, and Paul saw me again at very short notice to make sure everything was okay. Maria, his secretary, was also extremely helpful and quick to respond throughout. 9 weeks post op and I’m so relieved. My breathing and valve collapse is now so much better than it was before the surgery and I’m super grateful to have met Prof Chatrath. In addition to the improvement in my breathing, my nose actually looks stronger and more balanced too which is an unexpected bonus. The surgery has given me a massive quality of life improvement. Not sure where to start, but I honestly can’t recommend Dr Tan highly enough. As a boxer, he immediately understood the type of issue I was dealing with and knew exactly what to look for. I’d previously had nine months of physio and was constantly reassured that things were improving, but deep down I knew they weren’t. After an MRI, it became clear there were loose bodies in the joint. I was then referred to Dr Tan, who was confident they could be removed and that recovery would be quick and he was absolutely right. He was incredibly accommodating and even rearranged things to fit me in for surgery as I was due to go away, which I really appreciated. The surgery itself was a breeze, and I had no major pain afterwards, which was a huge relief. Everything moved quickly and smoothly, start to finish was all done within a month, which was amazing. Dr Tan was thorough, helpful, and flexible throughout, with a genuine focus on getting me back to sport as safely and quickly as possible. You can even Google or AI-search him and he comes up as one of the recommended elbow surgeons in the UK, so I’m very glad I was in his care. Brilliant doctor and a genuinely nice guy. I also want to mention his secretary, Julie, who was fantastic, always helpful, easy to reach, and happy to answer questions, even if it meant going back and forth. That level of support makes such a difference. This is exactly the kind of team you want looking after you. Thank you, Dr Tan and Julie. All seemed to be going well and at the close of my appointment the consultant asked me to have a blood test done outwith the Cathedral Also he advised that I should make an appointment for the operating procedure downstairs at reception. Circa end of April When I went to the desk I was advised that the member of staff was off that pm and I would receive a call tomorrow Next day I contacted my surgery about the blood sample and test. Late on my surgery called back to advise they were not willing to arrange the test as they were not treating me I received no call from Cathedrai that day The next day I waited to on and called Cathedral Spoke to Clare a few times and essence of conversation was that all was on hold as consultant on holiday and not available till 17th February Also no progress can be made with blood sample and rest even although I asked them to read my consultation notes !!! So I could comment more however this is the essence of a mot disappointing situation after my consultation

He was incredibly warm and reassuring, explaining everything clearly so I knew exactly what to expect. The entire process was painless, calm, and far more relaxing than I could have imagined. He stayed with us throughout the C-section, and despite working closely with the obstetrician, he chatted to us the whole time, keeping us both calm and helping us truly enjoy the birth of our baby.
