About Dr. James Howard

Dr James Howard is a Consultant Cardiologist and Clinical Academic with expertise in general cardiology and cardiac imaging. He holds a British Heart Foundation Intermediate Fellowship at Imperial College London and sees patients at OneWelbeck, Hammersmith Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital.

Dr Howard completed his medical training and specialist cardiology training in the UK and combines clinical practice with an active academic and research role. His clinical work covers the assessment and management of common cardiology presentations, including chest pain, breathlessness and palpitations, as well as the investigation and long-term management of cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension and hypercholesterolaemia. He has a particular interest in advanced cardiac imaging, including cardiac MRI.

In parallel with his clinical work, Dr Howard has a background in computer science and artificial intelligence. He has developed AI-based tools designed to improve the speed and accuracy of cardiac MRI scanning, with applications now used in clinical settings. His work in artificial intelligence has received international recognition, including awards supported by Facebook and Microsoft.

Dr Howard led the SAMSON Trial, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, which examined statin-associated side effects and their impact on patient experience. His research continues to focus on clinically relevant questions that inform shared decision-making and evidence-based cardiovascular care.

I saw Doctor Howard about the chest pains I've been suffering and he arranged tests quickly that go to the bottom of it.

I have now seen Dr James Howard three times. I am very grateful as he has got my blood pressure under control which previous doctors have really struggled with as sometimes it is high and sometimes it's low. I feel so much better.

Well the five stars I gave says it all really. A pleasant cheerful manner, listened to what I said, and was reassuring but did not make light of my problems. I felt he knew what he was talking about and came away feeling the visit had been worthwhile

I saw Doctor Howard for blood pressure. I've had lots of side effects in the past and it was nice to hear someone take time to get to the bottom of it all. He was very patient and we've found something that works for me.

I had an exceptional experience with Dr Howard and cannot recommend him highly enough. From the outset, the consultation was calm, professional, and reassuring. The cardiac MRI itself was conducted efficiently, but what truly set this experience apart was the time and care taken afterwards to explain the results. The findings were explained clearly, systematically, and in a way that was both thorough and easy to understand, without being rushed or patronising - this shouldn’t be taken for granted! I’ve had previous imaging visits where I didn’t feel like I fully understood the results or the next steps. Every question I had was addressed thoughtfully, with clear reasoning and genuine engagement. I truly felt heard by Dr Howard. It was obvious that this was a clinician with deep expertise, but also someone who places real value on patient understanding and reassurance. I left the appointment feeling fully informed, confident in the conclusions, and reassured about my future care. I felt like I received outstanding clinical care, combining excellent diagnostic expertise with exceptional communication and genuine warmth. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr Howard to anyone seeking high-quality, patient-centred cardiac care.
