As a Consultant Cardiologist, my priority is to provide thoughtful, evidence-based care in a way that makes you feel informed, reassured, and supported throughout your journey. I believe the best cardiology begins with listening carefully, understanding your concerns, and working together to create a clear and personalised plan for your heart health.
I specialise in assessing and treating a wide range of cardiovascular symptoms, including chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, dizziness, high blood pressure, and cholesterol disorders.
I also have a particular specialist interest in heart valve disease, with expertise in pioneering minimally invasive valve treatments such as TAVI and TEER. These advanced procedures allow many of my patients to receive highly effective treatment without the need for traditional open-heart surgery.
I have always been committed to achieving the highest standards of clinical and academic excellence for my patients. I graduated from University College London (UCL) with Distinction in Medicine and a First Class Honours degree in Physiology, receiving multiple academic awards including the prestigious University of London Gold Medal in Medicine (Proxime Accessit).
Later in my career, I completed a highly competitive Medical Research Council-funded PhD at the National Heart & Lung Institute, Imperial College London, focused on coronary artery disease, angina, exercise physiology, and coronary stenting (PCI).
Alongside my clinical work, I continue an active academic career with Anglia Ruskin University and regularly lecture and train cardiologists internationally within the fields of interventional and structural cardiology.
For my patients, this means being cared for by a cardiologist with extensive specialist training, a strong evidence-based approach, and experience at the forefront of modern cardiovascular medicine.
With more than 16 years of clinical experience, I completed specialist cardiology training at several of the UK’s leading heart centres, including the Royal Brompton Hospital, Harefield Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital, and Hammersmith Hospital.
This broad foundation in general and interventional cardiology was followed by advanced fellowship training in structural and valvular heart disease at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre, where I now practise as an NHS Consultant Cardiologist.
While academic achievement and specialist expertise are important, my focus always remains on the individual patient sitting in front of me. Patients often value my calm, approachable manner and the time I take to explain complex medical issues clearly and honestly.
Whether you are seeking reassurance, a diagnosis, ongoing management, or a specialist second opinion, my aim is to provide expert, compassionate care that allows you to move forward with clarity and confidence.

I graduated from University College London (UCL) in 2009. During my undergraduate medical training, I also completed an intercalated degree in Physiology, achieving First Class Honours.
During my time at UCL, I was awarded multiple academic distinctions, including the prestigious Proxime Accessit Gold Medal in Medicine from the University of London, recognising outstanding academic achievement, alongside the Atchison Prize for overall MBBS performance.
Ultimately, these achievements reflect my longstanding commitment to clinical excellence and evidence-based medicine — something I continue to prioritise in the care I provide to every patient.
With more than 16 years of clinical experience, I completed specialist cardiology training through the highly competitive National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Academic Clinical Fellowship programme in Cardiology.
I trained across several internationally recognised cardiac centres, including:
During this time, I developed broad expertise in general cardiology alongside advanced subspecialty training in interventional cardiology and structural heart disease.
My advanced procedural training included a dedicated TAVI Fellowship at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre, where I developed expertise in complex minimally invasive heart valve interventions.
I now practise as a Consultant Cardiologist at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre, combining high-volume procedural experience with an active academic and research profile to provide contemporary, evidence-based cardiovascular care for patients across Essex and London.
I hold a prestigious Medical Research Council (MRC)-funded PhD from the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College London.
My doctoral research focused on the advanced diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease and coronary angioplasty, reflecting my longstanding commitment to innovation and evidence-based cardiovascular medicine.
Alongside my clinical practice, I maintain an active international academic profile and hold a joint academic appointment at Anglia Ruskin University, where I lead the Structural Cardiology Research Group.
To date, I have authored more than 150 scientific publications, with over 7,000 academic citations, across the fields of interventional cardiology and structural heart disease — particularly minimally invasive heart valve therapies.
For my patients, this means being cared for by a cardiologist with extensive specialist training, a strong evidence-based approach, and experience at the forefront of modern cardiovascular medicine.
Alongside my clinical and academic work, I am deeply committed to improving patient awareness, access to care, and equity within cardiovascular medicine — particularly for patients with heart valve disease.
I currently serve as a Trustee for Heart Valve Voice, a national patient charity dedicated to improving awareness of valvular heart disease and ensuring patients have access to the latest diagnostic technologies, specialist assessment pathways, and modern minimally invasive treatments.
I have also contributed to international consensus documents and policy discussions relating to the future organisation of valve disease care and structural cardiology services, including work aligned to NICE guidance and contemporary heart valve pathway development.
Within Essex, I founded and now clinically lead the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre Mitral TEER programme, helping establish a contemporary minimally invasive mitral valve service for patients with mitral regurgitation (leaking) who may otherwise have limited treatment options.
In addition, I have helped develop innovative patient pathway models across the Essex region designed to improve access to TAVI treatment, reduce inequalities in care, and accelerate referral-to-treatment times for patients with severe aortic stenosis.
For patients, this means being treated by a cardiologist who is not only focused on delivering excellent individual care, but who is also actively involved in improving the wider systems, pathways, and access to advanced treatments for future patients.

I was very apprehensive never having had any experience of surgery or any hospitalisation but I was immediately impressed by the efficiency and competency of the staff that settled me and completed the routine tests. The procedure was explained concisely to me by the operating medical team which put me at ease immediately. On arrival in the operating theatre I was treated with the utmost respect I was awake but obviously sedated during the procedure and I was kept informed when to expect which kept me calm rather than feeling extremely anxious. The aftercare by the staff doctors and consultant was superb and I was impressed by their care and interest in my welfare and follow up regime.
I was admitted for a Tavi - Dr. Cook was absolutely excellent - he advised what would happen, risks and benefits. I feel that Dr Cook could see and understand the difficulties I was having with regard to my breathing and he championed my cause. He was always polite, smiling and listened.
Dr Cook came to see me prior to the operation and explained exactly what the procedure involved, the actual process, how many people were involved and give me a general overview of the whole procedure involved. He was very reassuring in his explanation. The operation went exactly how he described it would to me and following his explanation it enabled me to relax during the process. The operation took around the time he told me it would and was completed in a very straightforward and professional process. I was very pleased it was Dr Cook who performed this operation on myself. Later following my operation Dr Cook again visited myself in the ward to see if everything was ok with me
I cannot rate the treatment I received from all parties highly enough. It made the whole experience fearless and in my own humble opinion, it was the NHS at its very best. The care I received from Dr. Cook was exceptional, not only before the procedure where every detail was explained thoroughly as was the case throughout the procedure itself and then a further visit during the recovery period to ensure everything was in order. The regular attention from the nursing staff afterwards and throughout the night until discharge the following day was so caring in itself and a credit to the Cardiac Unit.
I had a very positive experience with Dr Christopher Cook. He was extremely informative, kind and understanding throughout, with a calm and reassuring energy about him. He explained everything clearly without being forceful or overwhelming, which made me feel comfortable and listened to. Considering the nature of the procedure, I really appreciated his awareness, patience and open approach. A very professional and compassionate doctor.
Quite amazing! I’m not sure how to explain this without you thinking that I’m “over cooking” it! Dr Cook is quite exceptional. I haven’t had any previous experience with him as, thank God, I’ve never had cardiac problems until this one! He has simply been amazing. He has kept me in the loop on on-going happenings and has never “sat on the fence” when helping my wife and I making our final decision on my imminent operation. What an exceptional young man he is!
