This review is 4 years later than it should be, because I only today came across the scan code to do a review. 4 years or 40 years, I will never forget the magnificent Dr Gergana Peeva who delivered our second and final child for our family. I had a very traumatic experience when I was forced into an elective c section at another hospital with our first child, the choice to have a natural birth was taken from me despite my having no medical issues but because I was an older mum, the Dr strongly advised it and as I didn’t know any better, i made the mistake of listening to the Dr. It took me many years to recover from the traumatic c section when induction failed. So second time around, I chose Homerton Hospital as I read many good things on the Care Commission website. When my waters broke, I made it clear at the hospital I wanted to have a natural birth, the difference it the nurses and Dr’s listened to me this time and this really made all the difference to me both mentally and emotionally. After 2 days and much helpful, caring and understanding dialogue between the Dr’s and myself, I agreed to a c section. But this time it was my decision and it was because I understood natural birth was not progressing which was harmful to the baby. Dr Peeva took me aside and gently explained things and we went through my concerns. The nurse who assisted, I can’t remember her name due to the years that have passed, I think her name was Genesis, was also wonderful in her care towards me. I was open to all staff on my previous traumatic c- section at the other hospital and they were willing to listen and their empathy made my second birth, albeit a c section again as I had not wanted, a much better and happier overall experience. When Dr Peeva held up our baby following delivery and imitated the scene from the lion king, it has etched in my mind and memory with deep fondness for her. I can and will never forget the kindness, professionalism and simply goodness of Dr Peeva, a wonderful and amazing human being regardless of her profession.

Mr Anthony Antoniou

My wife and I live in Nottinghamshire and I was referred urgently to Mr Antoniou at St Marks under the National Referral Scheme, as none of the Colorectal Consultants in the Midlands had experience of my problem or in treating it. We only waited a short time for the appointment and travelled down to London. Mr Antoniou called us into the consulting room personally and his warmth and demeanour immediately gave us total confidence in him and we knew I was in expert hands. He took time to explain the issue in detail and the proposed surgical procedure which we then discussed. Crucially, we were part of the discussion as opposed to be spoken at, which we were very grateful for. Two weeks later I was admitted to St Marks and went to Theatre where, again, Mr Antoniou was very pleasant and I felt at ease, despite the procedure I was about to undergo. When I awoke on the Ward post surgery, Mr Antoniou visited my wife and I and explained that all had gone well, again very reassuring. I have recently seen Mr Antoniou in Clinic for a 12 month check and, as ever, Mr Antoniou was friendly and welcoming and reassured us that all was well and that if I had future concerns, I should contact his secretary. I cannot commend or recommend Mr Antoniou highly enough for all aspects of the care and compassion he showed to my wife and I during a difficult time, especially being so far from home. We will be forever grateful.

From my initial appointment with Mr Hoo, I felt all my questions were answered and felt at ease, from the onset I knew I would choose Mr Hoo as my surgeon. I had done a lot of research for my procedure and felt reassured from my initial appointment. Pauline (Mr Hoo’s nurse) was also very informative and patient regarding any questions which I had. My surgery was booked and due to unforeseen circumstances had to rescheduled, Brenda in appointments was very helpful and offered me a cancellation slot which I was very thankful for. On the day of surgery, I was admitted into the admission pod and here all staff were attentive, I met with the anaesthetist and Mr Hoo and thereafter went to theatre. The theatre nurse and anaesthetist were so lovely, talked me through everything and I felt reassured. Thereafter, in the recovery ward, the nurse was excellent when asked about pain, I was immediately given pain meds which eased the pain and brought upstairs to a room which the excellent care continued. Mr Hoo came to see me and answer any further questions, truly 5* service from the onset. The hospital was spotless and attention to detail by all staff was exceptional.

Mr Con Kelleher

Mr. Kelleher was my chosen consultant for both of my pregnancies, and I cannot recommend him highly enough. During my first pregnancy, my waters broke unexpectedly at 36 weeks. Despite it being 4:00 AM, Mr. Kelleher took my call immediately and met me at the hospital just two hours later. His decisive recommendation to deliver early to avoid infection ensured that both my baby and I remained healthy and safe. ​When my second pregnancy became significantly more complex with a high risk of premature delivery, I knew I was in the best possible hands. Mr. Kelleher monitored me meticulously, coordinating additional specialist care with the premature delivery team at St Thomas'. Despite two hospitalizations, his expert guidance helped me reach full term. He delivered our healthy second baby with the same skill and care he showed the first time. Beyond his own practice, his referrals to other specialists—including an endocrinologist and physiotherapist—were outstanding. We are incredibly grateful for everything he has done for our family.

We were lucky enough to get into the appointment before our allotted time. Mr Mohammad seemed like a very nice person, but I felt very rushed, I wasn’t shown the MRI scan, The situation was not explained to us in depth,just offered options of an injection or surgery involving “metal work” which scared me somewhat. So I chose the injection as seemed a less scary choice to start with. We were told this would be put forward, then we left , all taking about five minutes, not really very reassuring. Hopefully I may get another chance for someone to explain what the operation with the “ metal work” would involve. So I would feel more confident with what needs to be done

Having a private consultation with a Black female gynecologist provided a level of reassurance I haven’t found elsewhere; I knew my concerns wouldn't be brushed aside, which has unfortunately been my experience in the past with other doctors. Dr. Natalie took the time to go through my MRI results in detail, even sharing her screen to walk my husband and me through the images—something no doctor had ever done for us before. Her dedication is unmatched; she has been incredibly responsive to all my follow-up questions, even taking the time to reply on Christmas Day! I am so grateful for her expertise and genuine care.

Had to visit for two scans. Everyone was lovely and made it as nice as a hospital appointment could possibly be. Parking is extremely scarce, I had to drive due to trains not running. This was communicated with me when appointment was confirmed.
