I had a mixed experience at my recent procedure. Staff were very friendly in general. However, I was shocked how inconsistent the experience was from one nurse to another. My scheduled procedure did not proceed as planned and as I came to around 6 pm on the evening of Monday First of December, I realised I was still attached to a cannula and I’m supposed to stay the night, which was not planned initially. I was told I should contact someone for my first visit to the toilet. As I did, a very irritable nurse came in and questioned me calling for I needing to use the bathroom. I had to explain to her the reason for calling is that it is my first visit to the bathroom. I then had a very painful antibiotic infusion via the cannula on my hand later that evening. The cannula was not stable. It was moving which was very painful and the nurse kept pushing it and kept asking me why I’m anxious. The same nurse came the following morning at 6 am, after I had not slept the whole night, to complete another equally painful infusion, and then proceeded to collapse a vein on my left hand When she attempted to take blood. I asked her to stop. She was not happy. I’m surprised that this is the quality of service received at a private care ward. I had both my hands with limited ability to move by the time I was to have breakfast. I was unable to use a fork and knife and was really getting upset at that stage as I was given jam containers which I was unable to open due to my hands being pin cushions . I felt helpless and burst our crying at that point: your caterer should really consider their clientele, as when a person does not have hands to use a fork and knife and is very weak then struggling to open a container is the last thing they are going to want to do. I had to call someone to open the jam for me when I eventually picked myself together. My main frustration at that point was not knowing why I am there and how long I was going to be kept for. A different nurse came in later that morning, she removed the cannula from my right hand which then enabled her to take blood from my right hand which as I explained to the other nurse as well is the only hand capable of giving blood. Simple as that, however communicating goals along way when also joined with common sense which I’m afraid to say the evening nurse did not display in spades. There was no need for all of the pain and uncertainty that I had to endure. I’m not usually a sensitive soul, I have had my fair share of hardship and I do not complain for no reason, however I feel this needs calling out, because it was completely unacceptable and could have easily been avoided.

Review of Professor Stephen Radley I recently attended a private consultation with Professor Stephen Radley regarding my stage 2 prolapse. From the outset, he was extremely informative, taking the time to explain my diagnosis in detail and discuss future options, including possible surgery, ongoing care, and the use of a pessary. Following his advice, I had a pessary inserted, which provided immediate support. Four months later, I returned for a follow-up appointment where the pessary was reinserted. On this occasion, Professor Radley gave me thorough training on how to manage the insertion myself. This has been invaluable, as it allows me to self-care and avoid repeated long journeys from Lincoln to Sheffield. Throughout both visits, Professor Radley demonstrated professionalism, compassion, and a commitment to patient empowerment. His clear explanations and practical guidance gave me confidence in managing my condition. He also referred me to a nurse-led clinic for future follow-up, ensuring continuity of care and accessible support. I am very grateful for his expertise and the thoughtful way he tailored my care to my circumstances. Professor Radley’s approach has made a significant difference to my confidence and quality of life, and I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking specialist advice and treatment. Kind regards Dawn M.

Excellent care - Cannot fault how Ms Adams and Mr Parker and their teams looked after my mother before, during and after her operation. We paid personally for the operation (~£40k) but our experience with the billing and payments and the wider admin team is in a complete mess. We had to pay up front for everything prior to admission, which was ok, but unexpected (could have been better communicated to us, rather than a sentence lost in some paperwork), and fairly sure the insurance companies which they usually deal with wouldn't do this. One of the payments/billing team then visited my mother in her hospital bed, 4 days after a major abdominal surgery and started demanding more money verbally (to be paid that evening/the next day) with no paperwork/invoice/backup). Some things weren't done as part of the operation and the Consultant messaged us to say that it should be discounted, but no adjustment has been made. I have requested detailed backup on numerous occasions, and nothing has come through. A real shame that the medical and care team have been let down by the Cleveland back office on this occasion.

Mr McLeod is friendly, empathetic and professional and I recommend him 100%. I consulted Mr McLeod following a shoulder injury sustained from dropping my motorcycle on the race track. In describing the accident and in his examination of scans of the injury, I had complete confidence in Mr McLeod's assessment. His recommendations for treatment (which in my case was non-intervention and progressive physio) took a holistic approach, weighing up the merits of allowing natural recovery of a cracked scapula against the collateral disruption that would have been caused by intervention and repair, along with my agenda to continue as soon as possible with my choices of lifestyle activities. I am completely happy with the outcome of the consultation - I've resumed all sport and I shall be back on the race tracks again in the Spring next year. Whilst I hope not to have to see Mr McLeod again any time too soon (!), should mishap recur and shoulder injury again result, Mr McLeod will be my first port of call. Thank you Mr McLeod for 100% confidence inspiring consultation! Kind Regards, Peter

I had my first consultant appointment yesterday, regarding a hernia condition that was flagged by an NHS consultant earlier this year. I saw Dr Richard Novell. In the lead-up to the appointment, I had managed to get the referral paperwork, but no scan imagery. On meeting Dr Novell, he informed me that scans were useless anyway for Hernia diagnosis, and he then proceeded to examine me. After this, he told me that I didn’t have a hernia, when I asked about the fact that another specialist had examined me and thought differently, he agreed that doctors tend to give different answers. My issue, is not that he dosen’t agree with another consultants opinion (as well as the person who conducted Ultrasound) but that I am currently in pain, which is harming the quality of my life, and when asked about next steps to resolve this, he had nothing to offer, when pushed he offered to speak to a colleage for a second opinion. So in terms of empathy, it's pretty frustrating, and I have to be honest, it's a complete waste of time from my perspective.

I had a hip replacement in 2011 at just 47 years of age. For two years it was good but then became problematic. I revisited my original surgeon on numerous occasions, had numerous X rays, scans and injections but to no avail. After some 7/8 years of this I was removed from list as I was told there was no issue with the hip itself. Some 2 years later the pain had gotten worse and so I referred myself back to Broadgreen Hospital. Fortunately for me this time under Mr UI Islam. He reviewed scans, X rays etc and quickly identified that hip joint had dropped hence the issues I was having. He explained the potential risks of further surgery and we decided it was worth the risk. 3 days after surgery in what he tells me was a fairly complex operation I was out of hospital. Hip is better than it has been in 15 years. I am so grateful to Mr UI Islam and could not speak highly enough of him. I have a life back because of him.

I was overwhelmed by surprise that Dr Kelly was able to clear up my ear infections , which I had in both ears for 22monthsin one visit!. Considering I had nine previous visits with another consultant at Kingsbridge hospital outpatients without success after the 9visits the consultant referred me to Dr Andrew Kelly. After 22months I was in the depth of despair as my hearing was deeply affected by the infections and my audiologist struggled to try and improve my hearing by adjusting the aid , my left ear by the way I gave up wearing at the start of my infections as I have a 90% hearing loss in that ear, so I completely dependent on the hearing aid in the right ear. I am completely indebted to Dr Kelly for helping me get over these infections , which blighted my life.

Mr Mihai was very accessible and approachable. He was reassuring about my diagnosis although it was serious and gave a very clear recommendation for surgical treatment which was well explained. I was confident that he was very experienced in managing patients with my condition. On the day of surgery he spoke clearly to me and my wife about the planned surgical operation and gave all the relevant information for me to be able to sign the consent form; I had plenty of time to ask questions. After surgery he visited me on the ward and saw me again the next day to check I was fit for discharge and to give clear guidance for the post operative period and to explain the plan for further follow up with results.

Consult over pain and lack of mobility - Mr Gordon performed an op for varicoceles recently at Spire hospital Leeds. Can't recommend him highly enough. Op was performed as a day case and we we were able to drive home (1.45 hours drive)without experiencing any pain. From being unable to walk 100 metres without experiencing severe pain before the op, I have my life back. It feels miraculous and I can enjoy a full social life, travel to work and a huge lift in my mental wellbeing. Can't praise enough and I will forever be grateful.

It's going to take time to go through procedures and operations, but at the end of the day if my eyes have been saved it will be entirely down to Mr Debendra Sahu, thankyou Sir.
