I had booked an echocardiogram with a female technician, and had taken the day off work to attend, but when I arrived and asked about the female technician (to confirm), I was told that a female was not available, which was extremely disappointing. I had called twice earlier in the day (before travelling to the appointment) to confirm that a female was available, but no one in the echo department answered the phone. Further, I have been attending the Cleveland Clinic since March of last year, when I had a subarachnoid haemorrhage, and had been told that my standing request for a female echocardiogram technician had been recorded in my patient profile. The staff in the imaging department seemed to be surprised that a woman having this test would insist on a female technician, which indicated a lack of sensitivity and training, and they appeared not to know how to handle this situation. So, not only did I waste my time and lose a work day due to this oversight, but I had to cancel my follow-up cardiology consultation, and now cannot take time off work to reschedule until the new year, which has created a very stressful situation for me. In my opinion, the Cleveland Clinic should always have a female echocardiogram technician on duty, for women who are uncomfortable with a male, and the front desk staff needs much better training in this regard.

Two years later I finally decide to go ahead with mine - I had the choice between lasik and trans prk, so I went ahead with trans prk and the whole process went very smoothly and quickly. My anxieties were put at ease by Dr Ghabra and Hakam Ghabra - I knew I was in safe hands. Furthermore, during the recovery I had the team on the other side of the phone answering any questions or worries I had the entire time which was even more reassuring. This is a very warm and friendly clinic and Dr Ghabra is clearly excellent at his job, he knows exactly what he’s doing - you’ll feel safe with him!

Marwan was superb. Even though he was fully booked, he went out of his way to find a slot for me. During the consultation he listened carefully to how I sustained my injury and, using his ultrasound scanner, explained the structural issues involved and likely healing time. He also provided my physio with the detailed information needed to create an effective rehab plan. Marwan is clearly an expert in his field, and I felt comfortable and well-informed throughout the entire process, which was incredibly reassuring.
