Mr Daniel Dowen

On admission to Sunderland Royal Hospital in February 2025 I was placed in the care of Mr. Dowen. I was in very severe pain in my right leg after a fall at home in November 2024. Despite earlier hospitalisation I had had 16 weeks without any alleviation of the pain. The care I received from Mr Dowen and his whole team was second to none. I couldn’t have been in better hands. Within a very few days Mr Dowen carried out a very complex operation which was followed by 48 hours in Intensive Care and I was soon totally without pain. The bedside manners of Mr Dowen and his team were excellent. All procedures were explained to me before they were carried out. Although they were all busy people they made me feel that they had all the time in the world for me. The aftercare I received on discharge was just as good with several outpatient visits arranged, mainly with Mr Dowen himself, so that he could keep tabs on my progress. I honestly don’t think I could have had any better care and will always be very grateful for the treatment I received.

My recent follow up visit for my eye tests and consultation with Professor Viswanathan was excellent . I am very grateful to him for his professionalism and advice. My eye condition has stabilised and improved greatly and I genuinely feel extremely lucky to have been under his care . Alastair and Greeshma made me feel at ease during the eye tests and are so kind friendly and helpful and helped to make my experience very comfortable and enjoyable whereas previously I had always been very anxious . I had a very positive experience and would highly recommend to family and friends.

I have not had a very positive experience at all and feel that the diagnosis is not accurate and the reasons given and report are not satisfactory - despite the report saying what i said word for word the analysis is simply not effective and does not align with my symptoms - there was no point having a consultation of the doctor only went off the forms and did not correlate information - also there was no understanding of why i thought i was adhd - i have done extensive research in this field and it would have been better to have an adhd checklist than the autism on

I had my right hip replaced in 2015 by Mr Shukla, this has made a huge difference to my life giving me my life back. Allowing me to continue with my daily life and exercise, cannot thank him enough. Now I need my knee replaced and would only go to Dr Shukla. He is very caring, explaining everything to me and listened to my questions, answering everything that I asked. I know that I am in safe hands with Dr Shukla, and would only want him to do my operation. Cannot thank him enough, brilliant surgeon.

Dr Joseph De Bono

Dr De Bono is a superb general clinician who views patients thoroughly, as a whole, and not just as a heart. I'm a doctor myself and this gentleman treats my father and I. I have seen him pick up on things that general clinicians missed (and I am embarrassed to say I had missed myself!). Remarkably sharp and astute chap, combined with a disarmingly pleasant interpersonal manner. He has a world class CV but is never keen to let you know it. Watching him work has informed my own practise to be honest.

I was welcome by the receptionist. I saw George Dashfield, Audiologist . George made me feel comfortable and relaxed. He carried out my balance testing explaining each one in detail which I really appreciated. He was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all my queries . He was so thorough and guided me throughout the examinations. His manner is impeccable . By far one of the nicest professional I have come crossed in some time. Dr. Muglu has been one of the best consultants I have ever seen. I read his reviews before booking and they are all true. He is kind, patient and explains everything in understandable terms and is never in a rush to get you out and onto the next one! He went above and beyond to advise me even once my gynae tests were completed and we were had to explore other options. The support staff were also always welcoming and attentive. I had an excellent experience at the hospital from start to finish. The facility was exceptionally clean and well maintained, which immediately made me feel comfortable and at ease. Every staff member I interacted with was friendly, professional, and genuinely caring, taking the time to explain things clearly and answer any questions I had. Their kindness and attentiveness made a stressful situation much easier, and I felt well looked after throughout my visit.

The only area for improvement is the check-in process - quite often there is a queue of people waiting at reception and the vehicle registration screen is separate to the check-in form, which isn't very efficient. The waiting area and exam rooms are clean and tidy, the staff is friendly and helpful. I prefer coming here despite it being a longer drive than my nearest private hospital because of the great experience I've had previously.

The staff were friendly and efficient in all respects. I was put at ease prior to my spine operation and at all times I felt I was in good hands. All the staff on my ward throug my stay of 14/15 January couldn't have been more caring. Mr Khurana had already filled me with confidence which has proved to have been well placed as all the referred pain in my legs has gone. My recovery feels to be going really well. Thanks to all.
