About

Dr Brincat is a consultant specialist in Nephrology (kidney medicine) and General Medicine, practising since 2011 and he is currently working at St George's University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, London and Shirley Oaks Hospital, Croydon. He studied Medicine at the University of Malta, graduating in 1999, and was awarded the membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) in 2003, after which he moved to the United Kingdom to pursue his specialist training in Nephrology and General Medicine.

His specialist training was based within the South London deanery, training in some of the most prestigious hospitals in the country, including the Renal and Transplant Centre at Guy's and St Thomas's NHS Foundation Trust, the Renal Unit at King's College NHS Foundation Trust and at the Renal and Transplant Unit at St George's NHS Foundation Trust. In 2010, he completed his training and in 2015, he became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.

Dr Brincat undertook clinical research at King's College NHS Foundation Trust in anaemia of chronic kidney disease. Over the years, he presented his work at national and international conferences, and published his work in various areas of Renal as well as General Medicine.

An excellent teacher, he has maintained an active involvement in medical education at several levels, including teaching junior doctors and undergraduate students. He is a faculty member at the Simulation Lab at St George's Hospital; an honorary senior lecturer and examiner for undergraduate students at St George's Medical School; and teaches regularly on his unit and at the Postgraduate centre. He was nominated by postgraduate students for Most Inspiring Teacher for three years running.

He held senior leadership roles in his Trust - he was the Care Group Lead for Acute and General Medicine between 2019 - 2021. Additionally, together with a team, he set up the AKI clinic service at St George's Hospital, presenting the significant benefits of the impact of the clinic service on patient care at national and international conferences.

He is able to offer advice on all aspects in nephrology, comprising acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease, haematuria, proteinuria, hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetic kidney disease, polycystic kidney disease and glomerulonephritis. He is particularly interested in the management of chronic kidney disease and using known strategies to retard progression.
