About Professor Vasanth Andrews

Prof. Vasanth Andrews is a consultant gynaecologist renowned for his extensive expertise in surgical interventions and the management of complex conditions arising post-childbirth. With over 25 years of experience, Prof. Andrews is highly regarded for his contributions to gynaecology, particularly in the diagnosis and treatment of obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASIS).

Prof. Andrews specialises in operative laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, including procedures such as hysterectomies and the treatment of endometriosis. He obtained his medical degree from the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, London, in 1996. He received training in minimally invasive surgery under Professor Jeremy Wright and achieved a Master's degree with Distinction in Advanced Gynaecological Minimally Invasive Surgery.

A significant portion of Prof. Andrews' practice focuses on managing issues arising from childbirth, particularly obstetric anal sphincter injuries (third and fourth-degree tears), perineal problems, and conditions affecting postpartum recovery. He is experienced in performing endoanal ultrasound and anal manometry to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning. His doctoral research was dedicated to enhancing the understanding and management of OASIS.

Prof. Andrews is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (ACOG). He is also a member of the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE).

In addition to his clinical practice, Prof. Andrews has served on the council of the RCOG and as a divisional medical director. He maintains memberships with the Medical Defence Union (MDU) and the British Medical Association (BMA), demonstrating his dedication to professional standards and patient care.

I was referred to Nuffield Hospital by NHS and had the proviledge of having an appointment with Dr. Andrews. I can confidently say that it was one of the best healthcare experiences I’ve ever had. Dr. Andrews took the time to listen to my issues carefully, explain everything thoroughly, and made sure I felt comfortable and informed every step of the way. It’s rare to find a doctor who not only treats the condition but also sees and values the person behind it. Dr. Andrews made me feel seen, heard, and respected. He followed up our appointment with a phone call where he learnt I have been having issues with my own surgery which meant I was not getting the treatment I needed. He immediately took care of the situation himself and the surgery called me back straight away to book an appointment to receive my treatment. I’m deeply grateful for his dedication and the high standard of care he provides. Dr. Andrews is truly outstanding.

Professor Andrews has changed my life! He listens! I went to see him last June and by August (4 days after my wedding) he gave me a hysterectomy. Since then he’s helped me with hormones and check ups every 3 months. I’ve now been able to lose weight by exercising because I am no longer in constant pain. I’m able to spend time with family on days out without the fear of pain or discomfort. My mental health is so much better now and I’ve even been able to get my dream job without fearing having to have time off due to pain etc. Professor Andrews I can’t thank you enough for everything you have done and for making my life easier and happier. I owe you so much.
