I recently had bilateral cataract surgery. From start to finish the treatment I received was excellent. The patient liaison manager was really helpful, friendly, incredibly supportive and a welcome calming influence. I was amazed by the state of the art optical equipment that was available to ensure that my lenses were perfectly suited to the dimensions of my eyes and my prescription, as well as the care that the technicians took while taking the measurements. The optometrists I saw were caring and informative, ensuring that I knew about the different types of intra ocular lenses available and what I may expect from them. They carried out my eye tests with care and patience. The eye surgeon was incredibly experienced and very skilled, and carried out the procedure very efficiently with great care. Now, six weeks post-surgery, I am very grateful of the care I received and the quality and clarity of my lenses; both aspects easily surpassed all my expectations. I would highly recommend Freedom Vision, Chelmsford to anyone considering cataract surgery.

He was rude and made me feel as if my problem was insignificant. He did not write down any information for me. He gave me the impression that he thought I was wasting his time. He also kept saying that I would not receive another steroid injection as if that was the reason for my visit (I hate injections and so this was not my objective). When he explained that the treatment was purely stretches and I looked displeased he asked me what exactly I wanted and I replied to just be pain free. He told me that the exercise was the only treatment. I asked about why I had been diagnosed with bursitis to which he said it was just a medical term for a sore shoulder. I felt he was very rude and dismissive. I have gone away feeling like I now have nowhere to turn with regards to the pain which is not debilitating but still making my life more difficult than it should be. His manner was unsympathetic and he also didn’t seem to understand me when I was questioning about the length of time I had been in pain for and how long I should expect this to continue.

I visited for an US abdominal and internal after NHS scan could not find my ovaries due and I was very anxious to find out if theses were causing my pain. I was fortunately referred by my GP quickly and seen the following day. The experience was totally different to the NHS one. My questions were answered rather than the NHS “you will need to speak with your doctor “ response to every question. The consultant Christina spent time to get the necessary images and did advise further scans to eliminate any issues with bowel/colon. The whole experience was very comfortable and I did not feel like I was being a nuisance by asking questions about my body!! Thank you so much. It was ++ reassuring and did also identify a condition which I may have causing the pain.

This was my second visit to this hospital,and as it was on the 1st visit,I can only add praise on the staff,nurses consultants,seating area with coffee machine,the receptionist was so polite and helpful as well as being friendly and smiling.It was comfortably warm on a cold day,always a nervous person even for an xray.but left the hospital with all the information I needed,and feeling calm and confident on my visit. Must add that Mr Richard Slack is a very approachable person that put me imediately at my ease.and answered all my concerns very confidently,with a very caring side also,I wish I could use those hospital for all my health issues,100%! Very friendly and informative. Had a consultation and explained what was affecting me. Mr Elhassan then did an inspection for the cause of my problem and listed out what would need to be done. He had a great support team which helped organise everything very efficiently and the surgery went off without a problem. I was provided great aftercare instructions and from this I didn’t have any problems after the surgery was complete. Can’t thank Mr Elhassan enough for helping me. He’s improved my quality of life in a way I never thought I would achieve previously.

My surgery has been so successful I can now walk steadily and much further, for several miles without pain. Mr Bell is very patient and communicative, I had plenty of time to ask questions in clinic. My other, milder narrowing at L4 is being managed conservatively and I can rest assured that it will be operated on only when it becomes absolutely necessary. My quality of life has improved tremendously and the doctor in my family has nominated Mr Bell for a greatly deserved award.

The experience was very good. However it would be very helpful if X-Ray, MRIs, were confirmed with a text., including date and time of appointment. Also Outpatient reminders do not include the actual time of the appointment and with whom which again would be extremely helpful and may well reduce number of missed appointments.

The doctors and nurses were very helpful on the day of surgery and were extremely friendly, helping to settle my nerves beforehand. They also had me practice using crutches, including going up and down stairs, to make sure I was capable of getting around during the two weeks I was non-weight-bearing.
