About Dr Chander Shekhar
Dr Chander Shekhar is a highly skilled Consultant Gastroenterologist at UHCW and The Meriden Hospital, with a special interest in therapeutic and interventional endoscopy, including endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and ERCP. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) and the Midland Gastroenterological Society.
Dr Shekhar began his specialist training in gastroenterology in London before completing his MD at the University of Manchester and further training in advanced endoscopic techniques at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. He has held consultant positions, including at Walsall Manor Hospital, where he introduced several new services, and at UHCW, where he focuses on advanced therapeutic procedures.
Dr Shekhar is an active researcher, with his work in functional gastrointestinal disorders and new endoscopic procedures leading to numerous publications and international presentations. His research is currently focused on colon capsule endoscopy and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in gastroenterology.
As an experienced educator, Dr Shekhar teaches medical students and endoscopy trainees from Warwick Medical School and manages a specialist clinic for digestive issues and advanced endoscopy patients in the Coventry and Warwickshire region.
