There was a lot of confusion in regards to my follow up appointment post surgery. An appointment was booked and agreed for Monday morning, another appointment was booked for the afternoon in addition to the morning appointment, which I tried to rearrange for the following day and recieved confirmation, that appointment I found out later had not been booked and one was made for the following week, and I had called to confirm the appointment for Monday morning too. I found out later that the Monday morning appointment was cancelled but I was not told this until I arrived for the appointment early. Gill at reception was extremely helpful and was immediately on the case to help me as this was a wound check appointment. She spoke to Nikki and Bev and I was able to be seen very quickly. I appreciated all the help I was given by Gill and she helped me create my next appointment for 6 weeks time and navigate the situation well. The appointment itself was informative and very good. I believe there was a mix up with the lists for the day and it seemed to be that everyone just got confused with what appointments for me were needed to be rearranged/ cancelled. Everything was resolved quickly and calmly, and I thank everyone for their help in resolving this.

I was greeted by an amicable, polite & efficient receptionist on arrival and shown to the waiting room where member of the theatre staff would come for me and explain what would happen next. Kate introduce herself and on knowing I have profound hearing loss made sure that I understood everything. She prepared me well with the required eye drops and made sure I understood the process that would happen in theatre. Having escorted me into theatre she introduced me to Mr Shafiq, the surgeon and the other theatre staff. Mr Shafiq is very approachable and explained clearly what was going to happen. During the procedure he talked me through what he as about to do and what I would see. He was very reassuring throughout the whole procedure which took about 10 mins. He explained clearly about the eye pad, the eye drops etc and Kate made sure that I had understood this before she escorted me to the waiting room. Overall, an excellent team and excellent care; even better than I'd expected because of my profound hearing loss.

My experience of the hospital was very good. The staff were amazing especially Jayne on Day surgery and David at the ward at night. The only downside that came to my attention is being told that there was no lactose free milk for my tea. The lady, I did catch her name, told me that she wasn’t aware of my overnight stay. She asked me if I was aware that I was staying overnight and I replied ‘yes’. She then went on to ask if I had put it in my forms prior to attending and I said yes. She kept on going on it wasn’t her fault she had been told. A bit of advice would be that she overshared. She clearly sorted the problem as the following morning someone had picked up the milk and I had it with my tea.

Although this was my second hip replacement the experience was very different and unexpected. Mr Stott had explained that it was different but not really explained the different rehab. The physio I saw at Stride (the one recommended by Spire). Their understanding of the different reha was poor and essentially recommended a programme neither specific to the operation nor the individual. A really unique service in this country would e a closer tie between surgeon and physio and specialist physios who really understand which muscles cut where the inflammation likely to occur etc. This would gratly ease the patients mind and expectations

My most recent visit was for an MRI scan which occurred in in the mobile unit. My oncologist requested a full spinal scan as well as a head and neck scan. The radiographer told me that this wasn’t possible then proceeded to ask me to choose one or the other. I wasn’t qualified to make this decision as both were equally important. There was insufficient information given as to the reason for not being able to have the scans I was booked in for, which really wasn’t good enough. Having waited quite a few weeks for this appointment I am annoyed that I will have to return next week to have the spinal scan. I expect better.

My broken wrist was very slightly displaced and after a thorough review and discussion conservative management was agreed , which has certainly been the correct decision for me. I had a full knee replacement and was absolutely delighted with the outcome. As expected, the first two weeks were sore with limited movement, but from there on the progress was fantastic. I increased the level of exercise and was so pleased with the range of movement and knee bend I was able to achieve. Strength increased and by twelve weeks post op, I was back playing club tennis. Dr Lakhera explained how the consultation would be conducted for the diagnosis and treatment. He was very clear, showing me the ultra-sound scans and discussing what he had identified. Whilst all staff were friendly and professional from the reception staff to the dentist. My appointment was 10 o'clock but I was not seen until 10:25 without any courteous apology or advise of the delay until I was in with the dentist. I appreciate that delays can happens with the treatment of the customers before me but a courteous apology and advice of the estimated wait would have been appreciated as my car was parked in a pay and display area.
