Mr Veeranna Shatkar is a Consultant General Surgeon, who has been practicing for over 23 years, and specialises in General surgery, colorectal surgery, Proctology and endoscopy (colonoscopy and gastroscopy). He also has keen interest in haemorrhoids, anal fissure, Investigations and management of change in bowel habits, gallbladder surgery and endoscopy.

He currently practices at BHR NHS Trust and also does his private practice at Spire Hartswood Hospital, Spire London East Hospital and Nuffield Brentwood Hospital.

He is the Clinical Director for General Surgery, Endoscopy and Gastroenterology departments at the Barking, Havering and Redbridge NHS Trust.

Mr Shatkar qualified as a doctor in 1997, undertook specialist training and obtained  masters degree (M S). He also gained fellowship (FRCS) with the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, after which he took up his post as Consultant at the Barking, Havering and Redbridge NHS Trust. During his time at the trust, he has been vital to the progress of the surgical assessment unit as well as various other patient pathways for the management of a range of surgical procedures. Mr Shatkar developed minimally invasive proctology servives at the trust and has keen interest in proctology.  Mr Shatkar also takes time to use his experience in the field to train junior doctors and trainee surgeons. He leads the BHR Academy of Surgery, which is a rotational training programme for the junior doctors in surgery at the BHR NHS trust.
