Mr Oliver Blocker is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee and hip surgery, appointed to a substantive NHS post in North Wales in 2020.
He trained in Wales and at the renowned Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, before completing fellowships at the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre in Exeter, the Southmead Major Trauma Centre in Bristol, and the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham.
Mr Blocker has expertise in first-time total and partial knee replacements, as well as revision surgery for complex knee and hip replacements. He offers regenerative therapies for patients with joint pain.
In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Blocker is passionate about education and research in trauma and orthopaedics. He holds an honorary appointment as a Clinical Senior Lecturer at Bangor University, where he delivers NHS research trials in North Wales.

I am at present a patient in the Trauma Services of Ysbyty Gwynedd Bangor under tha auspices and care of my Consultant Surgeon Mr Oliver Robert Blocker..He is supremely professional with total efficiency and is adept at explaining every explanation of the surgery involved and the way forward after said surgery.Every question is fully explained with attention to detail and is done with charismatic comforting compassion.He's a gift to the medical professin.
My visit with Mr Blocker was perfect. He is an amazing surgeon and I trust him in every way. My experience in Abergele tho was terrible & so stressful. I told them I did not want to be sedated but they went ahead anyway, i am not able to take strong painkillers which again they didn’t listen to me. plus I cannot tolerate oral morphine , this was put on my wrist band but I was still giving it. This lead to me being really poorly and hallucinating which was horrendous. I lost nearly a stone in weight due to not eating & being sick. The actual knee operation was very successful but the wound itself has taking over 4 months to heal due to an allergic reaction to the glue and adhesive dressing which I do understand was not the hospitals fault. I had clips on my other knee in Ysbyty Gwynedd, which was not a problem at all plus they listened and looked after me perfectly plus I felt very safe. . I would never go to Abergele again. Irene M.
