About Mr Oliver Robert Blocker
Mr Oliver Blocker is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee and hip surgery, appointed to a substantive NHS post in North Wales in 2020.
He trained in Wales and at the renowned Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, before completing fellowships at the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre in Exeter, the Southmead Major Trauma Centre in Bristol, and the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham. He graduated in medicine from King's College, London in 2005, training at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital. He gained an MSc in Education from Cardiff University in 2013.
Mr Blocker has expertise in first-time total and partial knee replacements, as well as revision surgery for complex knee and hip replacements. He offers regenerative therapies for patients with joint pain.
In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Blocker is passionate about education and research in trauma and orthopaedics. He holds an honorary appointment as a Clinical Senior Lecturer at Bangor University, where he delivers NHS research trials in North Walesand and enjoys training the next generation of surgeons from Cardiff and Bangor Universities .

The service provided by Mr Blocker was excellent. He took the time to listen, to clearly explain the procedure and made me feel less worried about the situation I was about to face. His aftercare is second to none, checking on me after the surgery and at the follow up appointment ,answering my questions and again taking the time to explain and not rush the appointment. I would like to thank him very much!
Excellent doctor.Had full hip replacement been back yesterday to remove dressing by a nurse .In and out very quickly no waiting around.
The operation went better than expected and Mr Blocker was very efficient with me.
I had a very relaxed visit with Mr Blocker today for follow up to left knee replacement surgery in March. What a wonderful Doctor he is! I felt totally at ease with him we even had some funny moments. He answered all my questions and I came away knowing I'm having my right knee operated on hopefully in 5-6 months time and I couldn't be happier knowing I will be in his care again at Abergele. The wait before seeing Mr Blocker was a little longer than expected but not to bad and all the staff were friendly and helpful.
Appointment was ahead of time,Mr Blocker,very professional and has a very friendly manner,puts you at ease and leaves you feeling very confident
Explained procedure and options for total hip replacement plus chances of complications at the clinic. Followed this up with a detailed letter of Diagnosis/ problems with total hip replacement soon after.
Doctor Blocker explained the procedure and was carried out swiftly without complications,I was walking without crutches within 10 days and all the pain had disappeared can’t thank him enough for his expertise and care through all the treatment
All staff very pleasant and enormous gratitude to Mr Blocker for doing an amazing operation on my knee. So very grateful, thank you so much
