    Dr Mark Gillett

Emergency Medicine Doctor, Sport & Exercise Medicine Doctor

    1.0

    Verified

I had the misfortune of seeing Dr Mark Gillett recently for a shoulder complaint. I had been in pain on and off for several months, and felt somewhat frightened about the prospect of being unable to resolve the issue, or having to resort to surgery. At my first appointment, Dr Gillett performed a cursory physical examination, asked me very few questions about the course of my treatment to date and seemed keen to get me out of the door as quickly as possible. His recommendation for an injection was made within about five minutes, and he provided very little explanation as to why. After an MRI scan I returned for a follow up appointment. Once more I found Dr Gillett to be rude and unsympathetic. I was eager to understand the nature of my MRI results and the course of treatment that Dr Gillett was recommending, but he seemed to treat my questions as an affront to his medical expertise. Far from assuaging my fears or clarifying my understanding, he treated my enquiries as if they were a nuisance. When I explained that I still do not understand what was actually wrong and why he was suggesting an injection, he became increasingly obnoxious, suggesting that I should simply accept his 'twenty five years of experience' and telling me that I had a very 'rigid' view of my treatment. I tried explaining again that I was simply trying to understand the course of action, and again was rebuffed curtly. I found his behaviour throughout deeply unsatisfactory, and he only added to my distress managing what is already a challenging and painful injury. I will not return to see him again and I will not recommend that anyone else does.

Walking into Spire hospital at Manchester, I was greeted by really good reception staff who listened to what I said and then made it happen. It felt very well organised. Into the wards/clinics for treatment, I was again greeted by friendly, confident staff who quickly put me at ease and explained what was to be carried out. All of my tests/treatments were carried out very professionally, on time and with care and respect. I felt comletly at ease throughtout. 5 Stars in every respexct for the clinical staff and Spire Manchester. Bad Experiencies. Dealing with the Spire Online/ Phone back office and Booking System. It was diabolical in all aspects. It appeared to be very dis-jointed and not able to pass information on internally nor take notice of what I told them. I received meaningless paperwork that bore little resemblance to what was to be done and its timeline. The night before treatment, around 8 p.m., I even received an email that told me all my procedures/ tests were to be carried out in Liverpool, not Manchester. Very poor level communications from Spire admin. very bad experience for me.

Great! Excellent overall experience. Facilities in general good, room, cleanliness, staff and procedure. I really am a fan, and if necessity arises would return with a lot of confidence that things would go well. Two small items of feedback : Negative - situation of the centre is not ideal and some patients get a view of a dingy disused courtyard . This is a minor point ! Food could be a little more interesting. Positive - its both reassuring and positive that the whole experience, especially the excellent staff, are so personal. The patient feels that care is tailored specifically to them. Little danger of removing the wrong leg! Warm human interchanges throughout, which is very, very good!

Steve is excellent. Personable and very professional and clearly knows his stuff. He operated on our son following a shoulder dislocation playing rugby. Throughout the process, Steve was clear with the surgical options and very thorough in his explanations, particularly understanding with the emotions of a teenager and his desperation to be back on the pitch again. He has a friendly manner and was always quick to answer extra questions we had between consultations. He did an excellent surgical job on our son and we’d have no hesitation in recommending him. We are very grateful for his care and are very pleased with the result of his expertise and handiwork. Thank you so much Steve and team.

See CT scans here: johnjoesmith73.wixsite.com/portfolio of displaced chin implant by Manchester Private Hospital. It’s underneath my chin, lopsided, on top of any tissue, not even near my chin bone, and they refute 2nd opinions I’ve had that there’s anything wrong with this. They also promised me a referral for a CT scan for months but keep deferring. So I’ve had to arrange these scans myself to get proof needed. Made a formal complaint and didn’t even get a written response. Independent adjudication (ISCAS) next then Small Claims. They will not take responsibility for negligence/errors so beware! Please pass on so people are aware - as this needs to be made public

I had a great experience at this clinic for my Botox treatment. The staff was extremely friendly, professional, and made me feel comfortable from the moment I arrived. They took the time to explain every step of the procedure clearly and answered all my questions, which really helped me feel confident and relaxed. The clinic has a very clean and welcoming atmosphere, and the results look natural and exactly what I was hoping for. I would definitely recommend this clinic to anyone looking for high quality aesthetic treatments. Thank you ,Cristina

I visited Mr O’Flaherty in relation to a long-standing problem with anterior ankle impingement. After assessing the results from an x-ray and an MRI, Mr O’Flaherty explained in a clear and concise manner that a ganglion cyst was the source of my condition. He then set out the path to treat this issue. This entailed undergoing an ankle arthroscopy to remove the cyst. Mr O’Flaherty could not have been more helpful. His bedside manner put me at ease before the surgical procedure and his aftercare has been exceptional.

I was seen on time by a friendly and caring staff. The surgery went very smoothly, and I had no pain. The staff helped reduce my anxiety. The discharge meeting was very thorough and detailed, and appointments for aftercare have been arranged. I was very pleased with the appointment and the care shown. The staff also showed a high degree of expertise and competence, as well as personal care.

The booking process was good. David gave me an excellent first impression. He, with Dr. Fragkoulis, and the rest of the team - communicated professionally ensuring they obtained - and all the same - provided the right information to help me with. The staff was kind and reassuring pre-op, and the post-op guidelines were quite straightforward. I would recommend this clinic.

I think Georgie's class is absolutely excellent and it helps me a lot. She is both very good at showing us the exercises on the reformer and is also very kind! She looks after each and every one of us and ensures that we do the exercises correctly - I have learnt a lot about not rushing them to get the best out of them! I both need - and look forward to - her class.

I had experienced a difficult delivery and spent a day in the High Dependency Unit before moving up to the Stanley Clayton Ward where the midwife team were absolutely incredible! All members of the team were incredibly attentive and supportive when needing advise on breastfeeding and changing, as well as offering round the clock medical care for both mum and baby.

Simon was tremendously helpful in sorting out a knee issue I had as a result of a historical ACL tear. He prescribed a straight forward set of exercises and a reassurance that got me back to full mobility and regular exercise quickly. This was particularly important as I was in the middle of a 5 month world tour with a band involving considerable travel.

Dr Nick was very polite and clear as to what needs to be done, what I should do and what I should avoid doing. Was very friendly and easy to talk to, patient and understanding. I felt well taken care of, both as a patient and as a fellow human being - in my past experiences, a lot of doctors treated me as a pain. That was NOT the case here, thank you.

He’s direct and thorough in his delivery of analysis/diagnosis/updates, which I like. Taking time to bring up scans and talk them through. He has helped me outside of his remit: helping to diagnose and refer on appropriately.
