So a colonoscopy is essentially a camera, a flexible camera, by which we can examine one's colon. It's a very safe procedure and it hardly takes a long time, and it allows us to visualise the inside of the colon. And in addition to being able to make diagnosis, we can actually also offer treatment, for instance, removing polyps from within the colon. These polyps may, in the future, develop into a sinister pathology.

So an endoscopy refers to the use of a flexible instrument with a camera that would allow us to examine the digestive tract. Not all of it, we tend to look at the upper ends, we call it a gastroscopy or an EGD which looks mainly at the food pipe, the stomach and the first and second part of the intestine. And then there's a flexible sigmoidoscopy, it's also another endoscopy which looks at the left side of a colon and then there is the colonoscopy which looks at the entire colon. And all these procedures are endoscopic procedures through which we can offer diagnostic, where we can offer a diagnosis by utilising these procedures, or we can offer treatment as well.

An endoscopic procedure is often a very safe procedure. It's a quick procedure. And under our experts' hands, it tends to be a well-tolerated procedure. And patients have different levels of comfort control, ranging from just a spray to the throat, to sedation, to painkillers, to having just gas and air, which is Entonox, to relieve any discomfort.
