Pleasant clinic with nice staff

I attended the Mayo Clinic for an ECG, thoracic scan and chest X ray before my post operative assessment with Mr Aktuerk. The receptionists at the entrance were welcoming and warm. In the cardio department the nursing and technical staff were helpful, friendly and efficient. One of the tests was unnecessary so I was quite early for my appointment with Mr Aktuerk Aktuerk they managed to get me in for my appointment earlier than planned which was really helpful. So a good experience all round.

I made a formal complaint regarding my recent MRI appointment at Mayo Clinic London, specifically the experience I had with IV cannulation before the scan. On arrival, a female member of staff attempted to insert an IV cannula into my right arm. The first attempt was unsuccessful. Her male colleague on site then attempted my left arm, which was also unsuccessful, before the female member making a third attempt on my right arm. All three attempts failed. Only after these three unsuccessful attempts was another member of staff asked to assist. They wanted to try one more time, but I said no. This new person was able to successfully insert the cannula on the fourth overall attempt. I found the experience unnecessarily painful and distressing. More importantly, three consecutive failed attempts by the two members of staff assigned to my MRI scan that day left me concerned about whether the appropriate level of cannulation skill and judgement was demonstrated, and whether escalation to a more experienced colleague should have happened sooner. During the process, the staff member referred to factors such as my hydration as an explanation for the difficulty. I did not find this explanation satisfactory in the circumstances, particularly given that another member of staff was subsequently able to insert the cannula successfully. I appreciate that cannulation can occasionally be difficult and that unsuccessful attempts can occur even with experienced practitioners.
