Overall, Spire Elland was great and I would happily return should I require any further procedures in the future. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and everything is very clean. I think the main thing letting the hospital down is patient communication. All appointments and comms are recorded and delivered via an app. If you don't want to or aren't able to download the app (like me), you do end up being left a little in the dark about things. For example, I had been given a surgery date fairly soon after my initial consultation, which was great, however I hadn't been informed that there would be multiple pre-operative assessment appointments to attend - all of which were on-site at Spire Elland, which is around an hour's drive for us. On one occasion, I had to make last-minute arrangements to move clients around as I'd been unaware of an upcoming appointment - I'd received no email, no text, no phone call, no letter. I just so happened to log in to my online portal and find the appointment date there. I moved clients around so I could attend, and just a couple of days before my appointment received a text message to say the date had changed, with no explanation provided. I called to try and find out why this might be, but was met with a dismissive reply of, "We just had to move it". All of the documents outlining the process for my surgery and the prep I should do beforehand were provided online, and the online portal isn't the simplest to navigate, so accessing them wasn't as easy as it could have been. When I was admitted for my day surgery, the staff were very welcoming and friendly, although I did find that I received a blunt reply whenever I asked a question about anything. This was my first ever surgery and my first time being put under general anaesthetic, so naturally I was quite nervous. Some of the members of staff were very helpful and supportive, but others seemed to have little patience, which wasn't ideal and only served to make me more anxious. When I came to after the surgery, I had been expecting to have a bit of a handover with someone so I could at least find out how it had gone and what they had/hadn't found. Unfortunately, Mr Gan was occupied in another surgery, and so I was discharged before having the chance to speak to him. I asked the nurses for some clarification - any brief notes or insights they might be able to give to put my mind at ease a bit until I could speak with Mr Gan - but this was met with quite curt replies. I was told no one could read Mr Gan's handwriting so no one could tell me any information, which at the time was quite frustrating as I'd been dealing with the pain for so long and had viewed the laparoscopy as the light at the end of the tunnel. It was disheartening to leave the hospital without any real clarification of the issue. Now having had my final follow-up with Mr Gan, I can say with confidence that all of my questions have been answered, and I feel validated and supported as a patient. However, I can't help but feel that had the communication from the hospital team been a little better throughout the process, it wouldn't have been so frustrating to wake up after the surgery and find that no one could tell me how it had gone.

From our very first appointment, it was clear that he is an extremely knowledgeable and highly experienced consultant paediatrician, but what truly sets him apart is the way he combines that expertise with genuine compassion and patience. Dr Ottayil is incredibly thorough. He takes the time to carefully review every detail, explains findings clearly, and ensures that nothing is overlooked. He never rushes appointments and always makes space for questions, no matter how small, taking care to explain things in a way that is easy to understand and reassuring as a parent. His depth of knowledge is evident, and his clinical judgement inspires complete confidence. Throughout our time working with him, he has been consistently supportive and approachable. He listens attentively, takes concerns seriously, and treats both child and parent with respect and kindness. As a parent, it makes an enormous difference to feel heard and understood, and Dr Ottayil excels at this. His calm and reassuring manner has been invaluable during what can otherwise be a very stressful experience. He has been truly amazing to deal with at every stage — professional, compassionate, and dedicated. I feel extremely grateful that my daughter has been under his care, and I would not hesitate to recommend Dr Muhammed A Ottayil to any parent seeking outstanding paediatric support. He is an exceptional doctor and a credit to his profession.

Dr Khan is an exceptionally patient-focused doctor with outstanding communication, empathy, and understanding. I have always felt safe and well cared for under his guidance. I have been treated by Dr Khan on several occasions, and each time he demonstrated a strong ability to diagnose complex medical problems accurately and efficiently, particularly where previous consultations with other specialists had not provided clarity. His clinical judgment inspires confidence, and his approach is consistently calm, structured, and thoughtful. What sets Dr Khan apart is the way he explains each step of the process. He clearly outlines both the diagnosis and the reasoning behind the treatment plan, using language that is straightforward and accessible to non-medical patients - and creates space for questions that he answers clearly and without rushing. Follow-up care is equally impressive. Dr Khan is attentive, responsive, and provides continuity and reassurance beyond the initial consultation. He has an excellent bedside manner and creates an environment where I feel listened to, supported, and respected. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking high-quality medical care.

I have recently had cosmetic surgery at Sancta Maria and i genuinely would not want to go anywhere else…. I may be biased as I work at the hospital but for me regardless of who I was the staff were very professional and gave outstanding care. I always watch how every staff members provide this incredible service to other members of the public but honestly they showed me so much care and compassion throughout my surgery. The staff in all departments - especially recovery and ward as that’s where I spent my time mostly. Also Ashley in outpatients for providing me with an appointment for dressing clinic to put my mind at ease when I accidentally got my dressings wet. Honestly I would not want to have had my surgery anywhere else. Thank you all so much. I am very proud to work within such an incredible team.

I recently attended an initial appointment and was very impressed with the service. All staff were friendly, professional, and welcoming. The optician/optometrist carried out a range of detailed tests on both the health and vision of my eyes, and explained every result clearly. In the end, I did not need to proceed with any treatment at this stage, as it would not significantly improve my sight. I was advised that waiting a year or two would give better value and a more meaningful result. It was reassuring to see that the practice prioritises what is genuinely best for patients rather than recommending unnecessary procedures. Overall, an honest and professional service that inspires confidence.

Any correspondence I have had with Mr Turab Syed and also his secretary I may add, has been very professional, friendly & helpful. Although I have to say that where it stops!!! It has been a nightmare for me trying to get through to talk to someone at the front desk regarding follow up appointments for steroids injections etc.I have been put through to various people & end up talking to someone on a central line in Glasgow 😩 now I have to wait until April for an appointment😢 This system should be addressed!!! So far we have seen a transformation - cautious to say but it feels like we have her back. I had trouble releasing urine, as well as blood being present in the urine. Blood would still come out after urination. A stricture in my urethra was the reason for my discomfort. Mr Varun Sahdev was able to determine that and propose various procedure options. After the operation, all my discomfort gradually disappeared, with a very significant change right after the operation.
