Mark Farrell is a Physiotherapist at ESP Physio with over a decade of experience in football science and sports performance. He has held senior roles across Academy, Club, International, and Federation levels, developing extensive expertise in supporting footballers from youth development through to the adult game. His background in high-performance environments enables him to deliver comprehensive injury management, rehabilitation, and return-to-play strategies tailored to the demands of elite sport.
In addition to football, Mark has worked with athletes across a wide range of sports, including swimming, athletics, badminton, hockey, gymnastics, sailing, triathlon, and cricket. This breadth of experience has strengthened his understanding of sport-specific demands and performance preparation.
Mark holds a BSc in Sports Coaching from the University of the West of Scotland and an MPhil in Strength and Conditioning and Injury Prevention. As well as this he holds Master’s degrees in both Physiotherapy and Sports Science. His academic background underpins his evidence-based approach to treatment and performance enhancement.
Alongside clinical practice, Mark works as a consultant in injury prevention strategies and has lectured at the University of the West of Scotland, sharing his expertise with the next generation of practitioners.

He was super helpful during all the sessions, clear and engaging. Flexible and helpful with appointments changes. Always sincere about the state of the injury and honest about the need or not need of more appointments depending on the evolution of the injury
Mark Provided a first class diagnosis and exercise programme
Mark F is very knowledgeable and personable He explains everything he is doing and why. Hands on, doesn’t just send you away with exercises. Does give you exercise for home. Mark F has had to make an onward referral for me and a request for additional sessions which were done quickly. Mark’s a really nice guy who puts you and ease and is comfortable to work with.
I saw Mark Farrell for pain in my upper left arm. Mark is providing treatment which seems to ease the pain, at least temporarily, and advice on strengthening exercises to help long term. He is also investigating potential root causes of the problem.
